An NPC involved in breaking level caps by giving you a fetch quest (50), fetch quest with NM fights (55), forcing lazy people to explore dangerous locations to show them what a real adventure is (60), to show people that adventuring (playing MMORPGs) isn't purely about battles and loot and forced you to seek out certain NPCs (65), then someone who mastered all jobs but Aht Urhgan and Wing of the Goddess jobs and you had to fight him one on on as your job and beat him before he mauls you...basically a test of skill as your class with support abilities locked off and only medicines and a prayer to support you.
Actually, it was just a bunch of annoying speed bumps. designed to delay the initial rush of reaching the new level cap. Don't sugar coat it to be anything more than it really was.

Beating maat isn't a sign of skill with your jobs, everybody has to do it and everybody does eventually do it. You can't tell if someone is any good or not just because they did a quest to reach the max level.
