Yeah, people are addict and impatient
Every company who provides internet based services can be DDoS'ed. There was a MAJOR one in October last year over Cloudfare, Amazon and Google, they handled it like champs and it was barely noticeable by the common user. This kind of attack is very common...

Most of the time, SE handles it like a champ and we barely notice it (this has been happening for years to this game and we don't normally notice). The attackers just found a way to make it noticed this time.
Shhhh let all the "server admins" on here tell you how easy it is to prevent DDOS attacks. Its kind of insane when you think about it; FF XIV wants to allow in as many users as possible with as fast a ping as possible while folks seem to think that the a DDOS is just a cloud PC pretending to be a bunch of different things. I would recommend people spend more time at places like www.netscout.com; many companies get DDOSed every week and sometimes the recovery might be fast - especially if you own or basically control all the points of ingress. By comparison MMO's and SE are VERY little fish compared to Enterprise IT companies like Microsoft and even then Azure pretty much has access issues almost daily.
Honestly FFXIV is pretty much a front runner in the market and the FFXIV game has a lot of motivated enemies and some very vindictive ex-players that with a little effort and a few 100 dollars can pay for a DDOS; heck you can google that as its not even that super pricey.

They think they are hackers for doing it is the most tragic comic part of it all

Guys just close for maintenance early, this is awful.
smol indie company
