Not really optional when everyone does it and you're forced to party with people you will likley never see again because everyone else is doing the same thing. Saying it's optional is kinda like saying using offensive magic as a blackmage is optional. Sure you can use some skills from your other classes, nut no one is going to play with you.

Fully customizable key bindings

Being locked into ctrl/alt for macros and 1-0 for action bars is so freaking archaic and annoying. I'm dealing with it for now, but I won't invest time (or money) in this game post 2.0 if they don't give me free reign over my key bindings, including being able to bind things to my mouse (autorun comes to mind). I have gotten too much out of the two-hands-on-keyboard habit to go back to it.

To be blunt (and perhaps shallow):

My deal breaker is character customization. If I can't make a character I want to play, I won't keep playing the game even if the rest of the stuff gets fixed. Right now I can't make a character I want to play.

In a best-case scenario, I'd be overjoyed to see the features I listed here get implemented.


Edit: My second, tied-for-importance, deal breaker is server latency. That's gotta go.

Yeah this. I have never been so disappointed in character creation I'm not asking for much SE, just long hair, custom color tablet thingie, and let me change my body a bit so I don't look super stick thin.

Then ask you Linkshell friends, this isnt a single player game.
The Content finder is more directed at players who like play casually, little time on their hads, etc

Company stuff will most likely outweight the content finder in many ways.

Well, it's kind of a 1-2 deal because the two go hand in hand with me.

PVP, and the ability to move my character by pressing both mouse buttons. I don't like wasd or arrow keys, and would rather just jump over something and do a 180 than move backwards...

Edit.. OK I lied, it's 1-2-3 cause it also implies being able to jump with the spacebar.

Shayla is in my Linkshell, and she is a European player. Balmung has no Euro linkshells, so she is online during the AM when most american are working and very few people can get online. I've gotten to watch Shayla work hard on her character, get garuda ready and hamlet ready, and see her never get to go to any of those events we run because of her playing time. Our LS just can't accomidate her playing time very well, and it sucks

Yeah, totally. Shayla's a sweet girl and hardly ever does anything wrong (except to try feeding me poisonous cookies!).

However, besides the fact that quite a bit of 2.0 involves stuff that makes me cringe, I do have a variety of possible deal-breakers that when combined, simply causes me to quit playing (and only an idiot wouldn't see some of these involve others, so don't even bring that up):

Lack of Group-only Content, Midgame & Endgame

Lack of Organizational Commands (AKA LS administration)
Lack of a Sense of Adventure
Lack of Advancement
Lack of PvE Competition
Lack of Realism & Lore
Lack of a proper HTML/XML-customizable action-bar like what AoC has (rather have no action bar at all than one not customizable through HTML/XML)
Black&White Morality (sorry, not interested in there being mere 'good guys vs bad guys' as it's always done wrongly and 99% of the time, the good guys look like idiots)

My deal breaker: If the game doesn't have some awesome open world content and I find it's far too many instances. I will probably hang up my hat. Just never been a fan of everything I do being in a timed/instanced box. I like Instanced content...just not having everything as one is somewhat nice.

No clue if you're still checking this thread, but: Of course there are EU linkshells on Balmung. Mostly Harmless is one of them, and an awesome shell at that. You just have to look a little harder!

Servers and an engine that is not garbage are the main issue, but supposedly that is to be fixed in 2.0. So, assuming those are fixed, the deal breaker is FUN.


I almost never see it brought up and it seems like some sort of symptom of how this community operates and how progress-driven this game and XI have been, but it's a video game. I do not care if it runs great or if the story is amazing, nor do I care if the graphics are beautiful. All of that will fall and be meaningless of there is no content that is ENJOYABLE to do. The game must be FUN. It can be hard as all hell but if it is not fun then hard is just a pointless waste of time and effort.

I don't think anyone should be wasting the life they have to live on a game that brings them no enjoyment or happiness, but instead is like slaving away in the coal mines for that weekly $5 check that someday maybe you'll save up for that diamond ring that's so coveted by everyone.


I'd also say the community getting over their "I hate every other MMO ever" thing but I don't think that will ever happen.
