The only deal breaker for me would be if the 2.0 client would not run on my machine. TBH, I like this game's mechanics and the people I play with so much that nothing short of not being able to run the game would keep me from playing it.

    and that's the truth.

I don't know, 2.0 is being seen as the time when (according to the expectations of the dev team as well as the community itself) all of the current game's major problems will be fixed, and really the only opportunity for fundamental engine-level issues to be fixed. If we get into 2.0 and it turns out that there are still some engine-level issues that keep us from enjoying the game, then being that there'd be little to no chance of those issues ever being fixed in the game's lifetime, why would one continue to play in those circumstances if those issues were of significant importance to that person?

Not saying that such a thing would be a dealbreaker for everyone, nor is it particularly likely (I have faith in the new engine from what we've seen and heard so far), but it's still a possibility.

Regarding the "softer" issues like content and story, yeah, I don't think it's likely that anyone would immediately drop the game because those sorts of things are constantly evolving and improving over time.

Like i mentioned in my post, it's about retaining the customer base. we may not quite right at 2.0 launch. but we would eventually quit. and that's a problem for SE.

a lack of content isn't really a 'soft' issue. SWTOR and D3 all are having a similar problem that FFXIV did at launch. lots of people joined. but there's nothing to keep them there. the difference being people left FFXIV from design flaws. not from lack of content. FFXIV has both to contend with atm. and 2.0 should fix some of that.

For me personally, FFXI and FFXIV right now have a good pace of releasing new content. I'm not super hardcore so i'm not completing all content the day it comes out. it takes me a while. to finsih it. by the time i do, generally i can either go back to content i have not yet finished or new content is ready. This pace needs to be maintained to keep a health player base.

FFXI had the right of it, because the new content was pretty varied. games like WoW and CoH were a bit more limited in design, so new content was generally all the same flavor.

without a doubt, i will eventually quit if stale content is released. or no new content is released. IE: it's a deal breaker.

Wouldn't that make it a really good deal breaker in that case... since the deal would be broken? o_O

For me, it's not a deal breaker but, I would love to see mounted combat. I know at some point XIV was going to have possible magitek armor and if that is the case... it would be cool to have choco-mounted combat.

No more server lag, packet loss, or whatever they wanna call it. I don't care what label they put on it. That info means absolutely nothing to me, and it better not be present any more.
Since the initial launch I've been dealing with it, holding my hopes high that it really will change in 2.0 from slow-mo experience into a normal one for me. I don't think that asking for a more responsive interface or game in general is too much. . . .

The closest thing to a deal breaker for me would be the lack of a mailbox... I really need to send some letters!

Lucky for me, it seems as though that's in so....
