Pictomancer is absurd

I was saying that specifically to people who have a problem with pictomancer being cutesy. I don't think the people not playing edgelords are as likely to have an issue with that as the people who are, but maybe that's too much of an assumption.

You can not like an aesthetic and also not be opposed to others having it, I think it takes a certain kind of person to both, not like it and be opposed to others employing it.

Also, the point with guns is more that it's silly. FFXIV is filled with silly jobs, I have no problem with that, plenty of jobs on that list are silly one way or another. But I don't see people moaning when it's edgy silly, yet people come out of the woodworks to complain when it's cute and silly.

It's OK to use a farmer tool, a gun, mathemathics or a fist (against swords) or a dance in a fantasy game, but a paintbrush? Now that's silly.

I just wish people wouldn't cloak 'I hate cute things and want everything to be in the style I like, even if I may not see it' (...turning off other people's animations is almost a must in this game if you don't want a headache...) as being some kind of gatekeeper for the game not being silly. The game is silly, the game is absurd, just, this is a type of silly/absurd that appeals to me and others. I understand FF7 is a lot of people's vibe of the FF series, but FF9 (which has a similar artstyle) and 1-6 still exist.

I don't play an edgy character, and the kawai side of the PIC bothers me. Not being a particularly original person, I don't think it's such an unusual position.

To be honest: yes, a paintbrush as a combat weapon is definitely less common than a gun or fists. And a gun isn't silly at all, it's one of the most common weapons in any video game genre. And IRL. Incidentally. And frankly, I'm convinced that if we had a less ‘cute’ aesthetic, it wouldn't bother most people that much. Except, no doubt, for the obligatory grumbling that comes with every job.

In fact, rather than edgy, you should use the term ‘serious’. Having read a good part of the topic, and excepting the borderline trollish posts that are limited to ‘this is BAD, GIVE ME MY MONEY BACK’: people aren't necessarily asking for ‘edgy’, but to be able to take their job seriously. Which seems to be the problem with PIC. In the same way, the Mandervilles quests split the community in two: those who appreciate the silly side of these quests, and those who are impervious to them.

I main healers. I run around throwing flowers and glitter everywhere. I have no issue with cute jobs. I still think the paint effects of picto look hideous.

Only complaint about pictomancer is that it seems like they made the wrong nation the source for it's origin.

In the blue mage questline they mention that BLU is pretty much a bastardization of some job from the new world, which could have fit the description of pictomancer since both jobs replicates in some way. But instead pictormancer have it's origin from Sharlayan, i think.

In XI Dancer was absolutely ridiculed at announcement. Everyone was sure it was going to be useful only as a support with /whm sub, because no one could wrap their minds around what the devs were thinking. How could it possibly be useful as an actual melee job? We all thought it was ridiculous.

And then it released, and it is *the* most used, popular, and utilitarian job\subjob in the game. Everyone and I do mean everyone uses /dnc for low man and solo. /dnc as far as the eye can see.

So yea, I give SE the benefit of the doubt now when they announce something that my primal brain immediately thinks "well that's dumb".

Considering we know there are no GEO job stones, the main teaching NPC and his growth unlocking the potential of the discipline is locked behind another job’s questline, and the lore book and NPCs in-game say it’s basically just AST/CNJ, I wouldn’t hold my breath.
