You’re playing a game with moogles, catfish who get drunk off tea, and moon rabbits who spend all their time clubbing and eating carrots but this is silly?

Sure, there's a lot of absurd stuff in FF--but that appears to be your point, not mine. Mine is that the Pictowhatever is the worse idea I've seen since this game launched. Horrible.
Easy solution for you!
Play one of the other twenty-one jobs and let those of us who like Pictomancer and don't want to be dark and brooding enjoy it.

Hope you find some enjoyment in PIC once it's released.
While it may not be like you or the original thread creator wanted.
Many others wanted it.
Don't paint the fact that some folk dislike limited jobs as a reason for one to exist and the other not.
_______________
Me personally, the only thing I dislike is how the colors look ingame. I'll come to bear it, though I would of liked more Metallic/Glow like in the Trailer, And/Or Caligraphy Paint/Ink.

Because Runefencer would have been so much more realistic, right?

Definitely don't doubt others wanted it. Just speaking personally. Still holding out hope for GEO at some point though.
Oh well.
Respectfully, there's half a dozen silly edgy jobs (fighting with a scythe? Guns in a fantasy game?) and now it isn't edgy, instant complaints?
How about a tad of empathy for people who like different styles? Personally I am really happy, Pictomancer is one of the first jobs that really appeals to me. It's cute. I like cute. Relm was always a great character.
Sure, runic knight or geomancer or such would have probably been a more suiting choice. But this job looks totally unique. The other ones all meld into nothingness to me. Why does everything have to be to your personal tastes?

Disclaimer: this message is in no way a way of saying that you don't have the right to like cute things. I feel obliged to clarify, because it's obviously a caricature fair on this topic.Respectfully, there's half a dozen silly edgy jobs (fighting with a scythe? That said, your message contains a good dose of bad faith. Playable classes include :
PLD, WAR, WHM, SCH, AST, SAG, PUG, NIN, SAM, DNC, BRD, MCH (gun = edgy? Wut?), SMN, RDM. GNB ?
= not edgy. The majority of playable classes have nothing to do with edgy at all. So where does this come from, this tendency to assert that there's nothing else available, or that not liking the PIC aesthetic automatically means you want a big dark guy who sucks the blood out of his victims?
I was saying that specifically to people who have a problem with pictomancer being cutesy. I don't think the people not playing edgelords are as likely to have an issue with that as the people who are, but maybe that's too much of an assumption.Disclaimer: this message is in no way a way of saying that you don't have the right to like cute things. You can not like an aesthetic and also not be opposed to others having it, I think it takes a certain kind of person to both, not like it and be opposed to others employing it.
Also, the point with guns is more that it's silly. FFXIV is filled with silly jobs, I have no problem with that, plenty of jobs on that list are silly one way or another. But I don't see people moaning when it's edgy silly, yet people come out of the woodworks to complain when it's cute and silly.
It's OK to use a farmer tool, a gun, mathemathics or a fist (against swords) or a dance in a fantasy game, but a paintbrush? Now that's silly.
I just wish people wouldn't cloak 'I hate cute things and want everything to be in the style I like, even if I may not see it' (...turning off other people's animations is almost a must in this game if you don't want a headache...) as being some kind of gatekeeper for the game not being silly. The game is silly, the game is absurd, just, this is a type of silly/absurd that appeals to me and others. I understand FF7 is a lot of people's vibe of the FF series, but FF9 (which has a similar artstyle) and 1-6 still exist.

The discussion isn't necessarily about cute versus edgy, although it seems to be heading in that direction. Those unhappy with Pictomancer, myself included, aren't necessarily seeking an edgier alternative. Reaper faced its fair share of criticism as well, although most of it has been buried over its three-year lifespan. Critiques like these are common with every expansion. Dancer was deemed "too feminine," Reaper "too edgy," and now Pictomancer "too silly." This cycle isn't unique to Pictomancer—it's a recurring theme in the community's response to new jobs.

Unfortunately, many receipts have been deleted or buried, making it challenging to find them. The broader point is that discussions like these are common with every expansion.
We will likely embody this meme once Pictomancer is finally introduced into the game in all honesty.

These forums will likely revisit this conversation when the aesthetics of Beast Master are revealed.
