Unpopular opinion but I care about the lore of 14 in 14 more than final fantasy ixivvvlove heart re rein fantamazing the third that people seem to think is the canon version of x job so 14 should copy it entirely

In 14’s lore GEO and AST are the same class, that’s all there is to it

Because they ignore that, or say "there's enough intricacies that they could do it".

Although honestly, I think the main reason is because the job exists in other FF games. Look at how many people bring up Chemist every expansion without considering how it doesn't make sense.

This is an amazing showcase! While I am not suggesting SE copy this, it would be nice if they would refine the spells we saw to look a bit nicer from a VFX standpoint. They were by no means bad, actually, I was quite impressed with how nice they looked, but I would still hope they get around to polish it a bit more.

You know what would be really cool, but will never see the light of day due to development time constraints? The ability to choose a style. Watercolour, the cartoony look we currently have and which seems to appeal to a lot of people, and my oriental 'ink' look.

I would love that, but it's not very likely since no other job has this.
I still love the cartoony look, but I wouldn't cry if they adjusted it to look more sketchy or watercolour-y, etc. I would not want realism though, I feel it would blend too much with the other spell effects and needs something distinctive to set it apart. But either of the 3 you mentioned would be amazing!
I would also be very sold on the idea that the VFX would change with the brush itself like the normal, level 90 brush would have a cartoony look, maybe the level 100 brush would have a watercolour look and the Ultimate/Savage/Extreme would be more of a sketchy/oriental ink look! But I can dream!

Picto won't be my favorite class but it doesn't seem out of place compared to the other jobs. The way magic works in FF14 isn't very restrictive so I don't see why paint magic couldn't exist. Aesthetically I'd rate Reaper lower. And nothing is as annoying as Summoners spawning Titan.

On the subject of the kawaii nature of the job, imo it's not so much that cutesy is bad, it's the personality types of the adults that are drawn to it that just make you wince and honestly have ruined so much anime for me by association. It's cute when you're 14, not so much when your 34. I am just anticipating the highest levels of saccharine second hand embarrasment come DT.

And before you start furiously typing, ppl openly complain about the egdelords all the time and it seems fine, but the moment you complain about the kawaii obsessed adults, which we need a name for similar to edgelord, suddenly you are a horrible person who should just let ppl enjoy what they enjoy, or you should find a different game, cause reasons. Which just frankly makes these types more insufferable because it makes them seem even more immature.

That being said, the artstyle of the animations is really horrible too. One of the things SE is known for is it's graphics, they could do a lot better.

Dunno, but I have creeping suspicion that edgelordliness is actually slightly (or more than slightly) tolerated; like in society, like in arguments about media and culture. And there is wide grey area where thing x occupying it is kinda edgelordy but also respectable.

Then, we see a little bit of candy coloured something and the only way for that thing to reclaim their credence is to become less fun and whimsical and colourful. Why? Genuinely why? Why I never saw demands for cute, colorful flair for any of the four jobs above? Why I only see demands for PIC to not be colorful and quirky, or DNC to only be "female character only job!!".

(⬆= quotation marks, because i knew someone who was very distressed about the idea of ever seeing male character dancer. i also have creeping suspicion that they weren't alone with their opinion.)

I am pretty sure most pro-PIC people aren't obsessed with kawaii, and actually enjoy darkness and moody aesthetic too. (mememe!)
But there is excitement in having something fun and new and unique in horizon, and it'd be disappointment to have it turned into same old dark and mysterious and grievous aesthetic just because; when the game is not lacking that, unlike the cute and colorful aesthetic.

Only place where the whimsy runs rampant are the humorous housing skins, paissas and moogles and candies! While I just want haukke manor of my own!! Please.

Correction it is still goofy but they did tone down the plastic neon splat look.
