Matoya animates/uplifts frogs and brooms and gives them sentience and summons a sentient water construct based on water just like how Carbuncle is a sentient construct based around a gem.
But I'm not sure how frogs with wizard hats, water drops with big ol' eyes, and brooms that look like they're straight from Disney's Fantasia aren't cartoony anyway.

There's cartoony then there's kindergarten. That's the difference between picto and whatever Matoya is doing.Matoya animates/uplifts frogs and brooms and gives them sentience and summons a sentient water construct based on water just like how Carbuncle is a sentient construct based around a gem.

Of course many people didn't use the character she was broken literally she would sometimes bug out the game or just corrupt your save file completely but it doesn't mean she wasn't well receivedPicto just stings me because IIRC it was used on ONE character (that I doubt many people used much) in ONE game, and she really didn't have anything that a blue mage couldn't do. It's like sticking the finger to blue mage and saying "sorry, we can't work you into a proper job. Instead, let's bring back the walmart version of you and make IT a proper job"
Also, Picto being chosen over GEO kinda had me baffled. Every bit of setup GEO needed to be introduced is already somewhere in the game, and it's been more prominent throughout the series as a whole. I (probably foolishly) got myself excited to get back to using the elements and ringing those handbells from FF11, so I guess I've got only my expectations to blame.
Whatever. I'll probably end up leveling Picto anyway since I level everything. Whether I actually play it or not, I guess I'll know when it comes out. I just hope it has a few cast times.
This is an amazing showcase! While I am not suggesting SE copy this, it would be nice if they would refine the spells we saw to look a bit nicer from a VFX standpoint. They were by no means bad, actually, I was quite impressed with how nice they looked, but I would still hope they get around to polish it a bit more.Except that the artist I had in mind was this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pgdg...nnel=rendermax
Regardless, fully disagree with the OP. I am excited for Pictomancer! This Job was a Job I didn't know I wanted, but after I saw it, I wanted it like chocolate! After theorising about what the second job could be, the moment I heard about Pictomancer I was sold. Like come on, a Job that can materialise your drawings into reality by using aetheric ink, and carefully weaving the ink with whispered incantations to bring your art to life! That sounds so cool!!!!
And in all fairness, we do not have any job that fits the cute aesthetic. We have Edgy (as previously stated by a lot of people in this thread), but we also have the Gunslinger, Eastern Warriors, Royal Magic, The Knight, etc. None of our current jobs fit the "cute" aesthetic, and I find Picto as a breath of fresh air, can't wait to play it.
For the people disappointed, keep in mind that you were not forgotten since Viper offers an alternative from cute to warrior. And if Viper is not good either, well... there are 17 other jobs to choose from, at least one should be to your taste.

I still don’t know why people are so adamant about GEO when 14 has gone to great lengths to make tell us that GEO is eastern AST
Unpopular opinion but I care about the lore of 14 in 14 more than final fantasy ixivvvlove heart re rein fantamazing the third that people seem to think is the canon version of x job so 14 should copy it entirely
In 14’s lore GEO and AST are the same class, that’s all there is to it
You know what would be really cool, but will never see the light of day due to development time constraints? The ability to choose a style. Watercolour, the cartoony look we currently have and which seems to appeal to a lot of people, and my oriental 'ink' look. This is an amazing showcase! I'm dreaming, I know.
Because they ignore that, or say "there's enough intricacies that they could do it".I still don’t know why people are so adamant about GEO when 14 has gone to great lengths to make tell us that GEO is eastern AST

Although honestly, I think the main reason is because the job exists in other FF games. Look at how many people bring up Chemist every expansion without considering how it doesn't make sense.
oh my god now that you mention it, I would kill for an Okami-looking picto aestheticYou know what would be really cool, but will never see the light of day due to development time constraints?
