Second this. If you do it on discord, do not DM random people - people get banned from FFXIV servers on the spot for this because it's an extremely common scam.

That being the case, it would be logical for SE to be on the lookout for this extremely common discord scam.

I actually find it weird so many people are finding it weird.
Why would this have ever been okay?

Because paying for a real world service with a digital fake currency does not feel like paying for it at all. More like a little favor.

It’s a good thing not to answer your enemies. I scarcely ever do. Perhaps Emily is more like me than I am like myself. Perhaps she would rather not answer her friends, even. She keeps it all in her heart.

I feel like people are missing the R here, REAL Money Trade, there is no 'real money' involved in this scenario, someone is trading their time (the artist) for gil (in-game currency), it's the same deal as people selling runs for gil.

It's not RMT by sheer virtue of no money being involved.

"While the creation of art can carry a different connotation than real money in terms of something to exchange for gil, your skills and the results of their application (in this case, art) are considered something of real world value. When considering it under this view, the exchange of art for in game currency would be considered a violation of the rules and may result in account actions."

I think it's the idea that it's crossing the bounds of a fully in-game transaction for in-game items or services out into IRL with a piece of artwork. For example, I've never seen any issue with venues hosting events where people trade gil for drinks and "services" and gamble with it, or people who do housing decor gil commissions, because none of those activities cross outside of the game world, while receiving a piece of digital art does.

Same as lots of other things sure it may be banned/prohibited by TOS but at the end of the day how many people will actually care for it to the point of reporting it

If anything rather than the art for gil was advertising it on plate, cuz seen it more than once in PF and no one cared that much, ever
