Thankfully the rest of the party was just as annoyed by it as I was and they got kicked as soon as possible.
Minus the kicking for use of chat macros, I too experienced this. It was a little (lot) extra. Annoying? Just a little. Most definitely does not warrant a dismissal from the duty though. That's just mean.

Don't use ability macros. Please don't. I am begging you, pleading, on my hands and knees here, do NOT use ability macros! Whatever semblance of amusement or cleverness they may have (which usually isn't much to begin with) wears off with each subsequent press of that ability.

A custom hello/goodbye message macro is fine. But if you want to say something funny during a duty, you can't just hit the "funny macro" button, you wait for something to happen that you can comment on that people can laugh at, because good comedy requires context and timing. I've seen some great comments in chat during roulettes that genuinely made me laugh and made my night, but I can guarantee you they were never once a macro, they were comments someone typed on the fly that only made sense and were funny in that specific context.

I mean, I guess I could just put my controller down in the middle of combat to explain to the sprouts that my asylum is not an enemy aoe but a regen and buff heals while they are in it. Or to explain to the new healer how Living Dead works, instead of having 1 line of chat that not only explain what to do but make some people chuckle. You're right. I should cause wipes to talk about it after, instead of using the tools at my disposal to make life better and easier for those around me. How foolish of me. lmao

I did used to have a macro in another game where I played healer that basically said "Rezzing "player name"

The other healers like it because it let them know I had it and not to waste time duplicating effort.

So I can see the use of some macros but yeah the ones tied to most skill I just want scream after the 3rd time

If you need to explain to another player that asylum isn't an enemy AOE or how Living Dead works, then you have bigger problems here that a macro isn't going to solve. That "explain how my abilities work" macro is going to come off as condescending and passive aggressive to the vast majority of players. If someone is really new and needs some help, then yes, I will set down my controller to type a message to explain something and ask if they're still confused or need any help. It's fine to have a wipe and then take a moment afterward to talk about it. A wipe isn't a failure, it's normal and expected for players encountering new content for the first time.

In my experience people learn way better when they don't get bombed with a wall of text which explains every little detail. After the wipe you can focus on the stuff they actually didn't understand. So yes, I often pull a fight with the intention to wipe it and then I explain mechanics. It's also easier to understand when you have seen it before.

It’s a good thing not to answer your enemies. I scarcely ever do. Perhaps Emily is more like me than I am like myself. Perhaps she would rather not answer her friends, even. She keeps it all in her heart.

"Funny" macros are just obnoxious and clog up the party chat. If they're paired with sound effects, it's even worse.

Even a normal "Rezzing <player>" macro is useless because if both healers try to swiftrez at the same time, it's a pointless callout; if the other healer doesn't try to rez at the same time, they ought to be paying attention to the party to see if a rez has gone out anyway.

Forget macroing commonly used abilities. You'll become the most hated player in the party, immediately.

Yeah, I appreciate the sentiment, but the number of times I've found a macro tied to an ability to be both funny and informative is effectively zero in casual content. I honestly find they work better in high end content because they can be inside jokes with your static. When the countdown begins and includes the macro text for "Food check Kardia check Stop sucking check..." We can all have a little laugh because it's a joke between friends. If some random person was hitting me with the "stop sucking check" I would debate with myself if I want to read it as a joke, or some passive aggressive swipe. And a funny rez macro or whatever might be funny... one time, but by the second use it's no longer funny, and more often than not, they're either creepy or just accidentally condescending... and I'm giving the benefit of the doubt by saying it's an accident.

If you're trying to inform people of mechanics they don't understand, just wait for them to show signs of not understanding it at least. To everyone else it's passive aggressive no matter how positively you put a spin on explaining how Living Dead works. If you're trying to tell a joke, maybe a macro's fine as a stand alone thing to not have to type it in the moment, but just deploy the joke when it's time to tell a joke, don't tie it to an ability that might force you to tell the joke every 30 seconds.

Not a fan of ability macros. They're not usually very funny and just clog my chat.

Bro we are in the middle of another sproutpocalypse right now. Most low level people know jack. Guess who I get to party with while I'm leveling up all these jobs and classes? SPROUTS! YAAAY. Might as well make this fun, otherwise I'll just be negative and jaded like a lot of people. "Don't have fun or be happy, you must sweatlord hard in low level content" vibes here, way uncool.
