    Mao has upsdate on Mao situation. Mao still unables check Mao credits card infos on Mog Station buts Mao just gots email from SE telling Mao that subscription renewed. Mao so relieved! Now just need for to gets debit card thing fixed for peoples having troubles with thems cards. Is really REALLY bad for SE to make such basic mistake!

    Well, on the bright side, I don't have to think about buying this shadow doggo mount anymore, considering any further transaction with this account would break my automatic subscription with SEPA.
    (I finally got myself a Visa Debit card this month, but considering this is the one most people here have issues with, I don't dare touching any of this just yet.)

    I heard mixed info about this, so I'm not sure. Maybe it depends on if your payment method keeps being supported...?

    Lodestone states the following:
    After April 23, 2024, we will be confirming the address for the account for payment security purposes. You can confirm and update your registered address by logging into the Square Enix Account Management System and accessing the “Account Information” section from the "Account" menu.
    This change should not have an impact on customers who have a recurring subscription. However, customer payments will begin using the new payment processor as soon as any change is made to an existing subscription plan, such as changing the payment method, or setting up a new recurring subscription. We recommend making changes to your account after April 24, 2024 to prevent any disruption. 
    My current payment method is no longer supported, so would I want to pay for anything, I inevitably would have to add a different payment method and going by that lodestone message this would break things in theory. On the practical side of things some people outright couldn't buy things with a payment method that's supposed to be supported but their sub was renewed just fine. Others had issues with adding extra retainers. And again others were suddenly blocked out of any way of payment when their address got checked for their current one and the system didn't recognize it for a myriad of reasons. It's really hard to say which issues may or may not occur, would I try to do anything.

    I just know when I log in to the mog station and check my "Account Information" as the statement says, the button "add/change payment options" is greyed out, I cannot make any changes without removing my current method for good. The system doesn't let me have two seperate payment options, one for the sub and one for extra purchases on the side. I don't know if I could add a one time option when buying anything in the store without touching this system though, I haven't tried that yet but also am not planning to do in the immediate future.

    As I said earlier. My sub was on a recurring Debit Card and did renew successfully. When all this mess started I decided to do a test knowing had an alternate card that should work). I added a retainer to my account and suddenly the Debit Card that worked successfully failed. I put the regular Visa on the account and no more problems.

    I have also heard of many people whose card worked for the sub post change and when they tried to buy something from the store using that same debit card the card failed messing up their account payment as well.

    Basically as soon as you do any kind of new payment be it change to account or new purchase you are bounced off the old service provider and on to the new one. The new one seemingly hasn't figured out Debit cards yet.

    Well, I don't take the risk then and avoid buying things on the online store for who knows how long.

    I somehow hope there will be significant less players buying new things in the store, be it players who don't want to break the recurrent sub or a players with a non working payment option, that SE sees they need to do something.

    They made a payment update post but still nothing on any fixes or updates minus a JP post for the JP store (Of course they are all on top of that entirely instantly fixing it up)

    Hmm, interesting.... it does explain one thing conclusively though - exactly why they've suddenly started cracking down on region restrictions for accounts (and thus the forcing of players to verify their billing address - it's for... taxation purposes (probably to ensure that the right tax type and amount is charged depending on where you are for tax purposes. And before you pass judgement, I was sent an email from Paypal earlier in the year about something similar, needing to verify my address/location for taxation purposes. Because I refused (I haven't used the account in ages), Paypal closed it. So I presume there has been a legal directive by governments to ensure sales tax/VAT/GST or whatever the tax is called is charged and paid to the relevant government.

    And although that seems to only be specific to North America (there is no equivelant mention about EU/UK/rest of the world), I'm liable to assume it affects everyone.

    Goes to show that not even Square Enix, not even the Warrior of Light... can defeat the goddessdamn Taxman...

    From other social media sources, players have said that SE has been VAT/Tax complaint in the EU for years now. So I don't think the Visa Debit issue is tied to this, because it's a worldwide issue and not just NA.

    If they want people to pay their taxes based on where they actually live... then why don't they let us change our country of residence and payment currency on their website? Or even through customer support?
