They would have to completely rewrite the early class quests.

Haven't they had to do multiple partial rewrites as they've rebalanced the jobs by adding, removing and changing the abilities mentioned?

They’ve done adjustments about cutting out mentions of the abilities you would get after the quest but that’s just reordering a sentence or two. Not completely redoing the foundational lore of 10 seperate jobs including every mention of the class during the job quests as well

if you have a PLD above 30+ who is refusing to turn on Iron will then I think they're Griefing and it's time to leave the dungeon or vote kick them (this is pretty much the same case if you had a healer refusing to heal or a DPS afking, then it's justified to actually kick them in this case). This also sounds like something someone who doesn't know about job stones would do more then a gladiator, it should be the games and player bases job to guide them in the right direction, In general I think it's more healthy if the game told someone to put on a job stone.

The game should help newer players by telling them that they should get the job stone and do job quests, If I was new I'd at least want my abilities and to have a understanding of what I should be doing in general.

I don't what's wrong with the game pushing players in the right direction, I don't think it's fair on the other 3 players either... which is also important.

I feel like there's an easier solution than those suggested.

Remove the requirement to have completed "Sylph-management" in the MSQ before a job can be unlocked.

Very few players are intentionally not unlocking their jobs or not equipping their job stones. Most of the time, it is newer players unaware that unlocking the job is the normal next step for their starting classes.

With the abundance of XP bonuses available plus a new player's natural curiosity about side content, it's a rare player that hasn't reached level 30 (if not much higher) on their starting class before they choose their Grand Company. That means their class to job quest progression gets interrupted with no special reminder from the game to revisit the class guild once Sylph-management is completed. All that happens is the first job quest appears in small print at the bottom of the MSQ tracker where it is easily missed, ignored or not understood as significant.

Let players unlock the job as soon as the level 30 class quest is completed, no wait. Make it a smooth progression instead of something interrupted that the player has to remember to go back and do later. Get them in the habit of having the job stone equipped before they reach MSQ content where it actually matters.

In higher level content, treat classes like BLU. If a pre-formed party wants to queue together without job stones for giggles and a little extra challenge, let them. But don't allow players to queue without their job stones equipped if there is random matchmaking involved.

actually, there was a time when there were no msq requirements for jobquests.
i assume they put that in because leveling became faster over time and they dont want us to learn jobs so early in msq. now the only job that makes sense for is summoner because of ifrit.
but it also makes sense to want the same clear line for every job

I would kind of be okay with them rewriting some of the base lore. And, yeah, it would require somewhat extensive rewrites. I wouldn't necessarily remove the questlines, but I would disconnect them from the jobs themselves, making them more akin to sidequest chains. It's not a fully formed idea on my part, so it's likely a bad idea, but I'm now definitely thinking about it.

the biggest sin in the quoted example you mentioned is that the gladiator quests are actually decent, and the idea of axing them in favor of just keeping the paladin ones makes me want to scream

Nothing says they would have to keep the PLD quests as is when they replace/merge in the GLA quests. Honestly, the tonal shift between the GLA and the PLD never worked for me and the interpretation of PLD in European-derived cultures that also have other associations was just strange, not that I can blame SE. Storytellers in the West likely have the same kind of cultural dissonance in their storytelling when talking about Asian topics.

Put the current GLD, PLD, MRD, and WAR stories into a time capsule and create a new PLD and WAR storyline from 1 to 30, ditching everything from 1 to 70 from before. And introduce new role-based quests for 30-50 for tanks.
