roleplay related question/concern my idea would annoy personally, werewolf

Hi guys so been struggling to find lore or a reason why my character is a werewolf. He is a big ol hyur but hides in that form. I don't wish to change his race. At first the idea was he was curses by shadowkeeper but then I finally notice that can't really be done since his not wol and no way to travel between the stars. I don't want to also cross that. Most rpers get mad over that. So I'm not sure how to go about this maybe he was cursed somehow else or just born as one? With how there is little to no lore with werewolves I'm unsure what to do. If anyone can suggest please. Just need something that makes sense and not full on lore breaking.

Blame some forgotten Allagan horror that he stumbled across? It's how the devs resolve a lot of problems.

Stormblood gave us the auspices so you could use that lore. Alternatively you could go with Garlean or Allagan experimentation.

I don't think werewolves even exist in FFXIV, but as stated you can just blame the Allagans, they were wholly devoted to body modifications and DNA twisting near the end of their empire so there could be some kind of slop or goop in some Allagan ruin that would cause fur growth, fangs, whatever by mixing the genetics of a hound or wolf or something.

There's also the lupin race your character could actually be and just be using glamour to appear as hyur (they're basically hyur with wolf heads) and just ignore what the character sheet says your character is, they're found in Othard (specifically Doma).

For an auspice he would have to be really old and originally a wolf, so that would probably change your personal lore too much. For an experiment, instead of a curse he could have been altered by Garlean scientists (with or without the help of Allagan tech) and found a way to “control” his form with a device. He could also just have an accident at Azys Lla that causes him to change. Or he could be some form of voidsent, maybe touched by darkness and that has an effect on how he changes.

I don’t think you could stick to traditional werewolf lore to make it work without breaking game lore, so you just gotta try to find alternate ways someone could become a wolfman.

Allagans experimenting on Lupin, breaking them down to their aether and exposing your ancestors to it over a long period of time. I remember a quest similar to that in the game, except it was the Sahagin exposing pirates to water aspected aether.

I've been considering having my character be what's left of the phoinix, or at least one of its heads. I don't have the details down just yet, but it will almost certainly involve Pandaemonium. The raid series set there surrounds researcher-jailers who have been fused with their creations, and given that one of them ends up as a vampire I wouldn't say a werewolf is out of the question by any means. Maybe your character possesses the sundered soul of some unfortunate researcher who ended up fused with their wolf creation, and the taint of lycanthropy remains despite the sundering. Might be worth looking into alongside the Garlean and Allagan suggestions.

There are werewolves, but not on the Source and not Hyur; Lakeland has some FATEs about elves that learned to become wolf monsters because [file not found]. (Well, okay, the reason is "Ascians" but the actual mechanism isn't explained.) It's also not clear if most of them can actually shapeshift both ways rather than the transformation being permanent, because iirc all we have on it is the FATE descriptions.
