I mean yeah, Alphinaud was pretty bad at that, there's no denying it. But also, experience can't be granted from nothing, you've gotta get it somewhere, and the only way to get leadership experience is to lead.

I was not referring to Alphinaud. I was referring to Fran's leader who was only hinted at in quests during Return to Ivalice quests but not in name.

In actuality I was referring to a character from the FFXII/Tactics Universe, which I refrain from naming for spoiler reasons.

Ivalice's square enix's best world so far as far as I'm concerned; unfortunate if we don't return to it. And before anyone goes "but xiv should be xiv instead of being xii," well what about Doma and how it was pulled out directly from FFVI? We don't really need an entire expansion based in Ivalice-Dalmasca only, it could just be like they did with Doma.

After endwalker it feels square enix's just "winging" or improvising when it comes to FFXIV; there's no real clear direction of what the warrior of light is supposed to fight for anymore since there's no clear danger in the world left.

Hopefully the same way the new hrothgar girl pulled the WOL aside to fight her fight, we can get Fran to do the same next expansion.

Basically the only things 'pulled directly' from FFVI Doma for XIV's were the name, and a guy named Cyan living there. And maybe a water-centric demise of the castle, but I think at that point you're stretching the word 'directly' to the point of uselessness.

Honestly not sure why you picked Doma for this point, when the Four Archfiends are right there. They don't really make sense for this argument you've decided you're having with your own strawman either (I don't think anybody begrudges XIV going for some close-to-the-hilt references for fanservice every so often) but they're both much more recent and much closer to their source.

In the end it's up to me which example I choose; it's one of many. Furthermore, it's far from a strawman, it's an argument that has been documented by many in the past.
