Dawntrail looks to be more of the same and I'm already pretty much done with the game as it is.

This is not be argumentative or anything but doesn't it stand to reason to see what Dawntrail is like since you're here already? xD I mean, if I knew what endwalker was going to be ahead of time I would've quit after beating the MSQ in the first month and resubbed this June. But I wonder if you may want to quit right as the new thing launches without seeing it first.

I'm in this camp, too. Pretty much everyone in my FC is preordering the expansion, but I'm waiting until it actually drops to see if it's worth anything. So far, I have been incredibly whelmed by the vast majority of the announcements. The story seems OK but not particularly exciting. I'm indifferent about one of the new jobs and actively dislike the other. I'm straight up dreading how they'll butcher Astrologian. The only thing I'm actually excited about is the two dye channels and honestly, that's kinda sad.

I'm just hoping we don't have to deal with yet another world-ending threat.

I sense another world-ending threat (or something capable of doing so, it probably wouldn't be in their interest to do it but nevertheless we need to defeat them for some reason).

But I do agree it got so out of hand by Endwalker that somehow, some way we probably need to reset back to handling more trivial matters, which might take some getting used to. I'm just not so sure it's actually Yoshi-P's mindset.

He said we were gonna go back to being a simple adventurer with 6.1, but I also know that Yoshi-P is always looking for the next big fantasy story where it's a small group overcoming something fantastical and often that ends up involving saving the world...

6.1 didn't last long either. We went right back to speedrunning saving a long-doomed world the same way we did in Shadowbringers and casually saving the source from an invasion lol.

Did I miss some datamine something or other that showed off the story? A lot of people in this thread mention that the story specifically isn't interesting to them but what even is the story?! As far as I know we're going to the 'new world' to look for a golden city and compete in some kind of competition to put someone on the throne or something but that's not the entire story, like, people know that right? Am I out of the loop or are people seriously going "Nah this expansion sucks" just from the rough plot thread we've been shown so far?

I'm only hyped in the sense that I'll have a reason to log into FF14 more actively. Most of the announced stuff to me seems "meh" to me (although I am glad they are adding this stuff for others who will enjoy it). The story doesn't seem like it will be overly interesting to me at the moment, the new classes seem cool, but I'm not like crazy interested in them at the same time. The only new thing that I am some what excited for is the new Field Op, but it all depends on how its done really. I enjoyed Eureuka a lot more than I enjoyed Bozja. I have very little interest in the space exploration casual thingy they announced (Just not a fan of space travel overall, but I'm fine with it being added).

I'm just hyped to have a reason to play FF14 again, not so hyped for the announced content. I've had my sub active for probably all of ShB and EW, but I have not really logged in much the last 6+ months overall, been busy playing other games. I have not even done the last few patches of MSQ content, so I plan on doing that now to catch up before DT hits.

I don't think people are trying to say the story sucks or anything (unless I missed something), just that the theme of it doesn't seem interesting off the bat. I also feel that way, but I am still interested in experiencing it, and who knows, maybe (let's be real, probably) I'll really enjoy it too. Going into EW from ShB the story's theme seemed really cool, because I had all the context of the previous Xpacs. This new story is not going to continue it, and because of that along with the unknowns of what's to come, it just doesn't seem too interesting to me yet.

I can't speak for everyone, but as someone who feels "w/e" about the new storyline from what I do know about it, I am not writing it off completely, I am just not excited for it as much as I was with the other xpacs. I'm sure it'll be good though.

Like I said, I am mostly hyped to want to log into the game every day again, because it's def my favorite MMO, just not hyped about anything specific in the new xpac yet, and that's okay, not all content is gonna make me super excited, but it will excite others and that's good.

Some of the locations previewed would need to be introduced carefully or they would end up landing in an extremely jarring way which can be very offputting, and some people (including me) just found 6.x to be such a disappointment that the threads presented in the minimal lead-up to 7.0 we have just aren't engaging because of it, and yet other people just aren't into the msq as a core reason to want to play further. I personally didn't really enjoy EW in the end since it ended up throwing out or rushing most of the plot threads I personally found actually engaging with any hope I had of them actually being addressed utterly crushed over the course of 6.x, and the DT trailer has an emphasis on characters that I have broadly not really been invested in, so I don't exactly have much to anticipate in DT in terms of story at this point.
