Enable the Z axis via in-game menu

Reading the thread surrounding "Glitching vs. Natural Design," a lot of the sentiment there expressed frustration with what is currently achievable via standard means when it comes to item placement, and how difficult or tedious it can be to implement glitching techniques. Now, I personally love designing homes which Frankenstein pieces if furniture together to create new and interesting layouts and furnishings that would otherwise not be achievable in-game, and when exploring wards I'm always impressed by what others are able to come up with using these techniques as well. They just unlock an entire new avenue of creativity and freedom to design, and it's all thanks to liberal use of the Z-axis. Unfortunately, apart from the very limited wall-mounted items, which cannot stand freely without use of glitching techniques, these designs aren't very accessible to a majority of players, really being something only those of us who have really fallen down the housing rabbit hole bother to do.

I propose we just add a Z-axis to the in-game tools and allow items to be placed in the air. I was honestly surprised when I first tried them that there wasn't a Z-axis in the first place. The items are already being floated by glitches, let's support it. Implementation of a z-axis would also obviate the need to change how lofts or stages work, and I think this would really just improve the overall housing experience for everyone, while helping to quell some of the controversy surrounding the use of these techniques. I really can't think of any reason this shouldn't be readily available and easy to use.

Yes. Or at the very least, allow things to be placed onto other things… ie: you should be able to place anything on a loft that you could put on the floor, cushions could be placed on sofas, stuffed animals could be placed on beds, etc. Not sure which would be easier to implement, but it’s long overdue!

+1 to this and I'd also like the restrictions near the walls be relaxed a little. Many times when trying to place an item against a wall the game only allows it to be placed sort of near the wall so there is a huge gap in between.
