I mean they could introduce a system like WoW or GW2 where you can just buy gold from SE directly, that would at least dampen a lot of the RMT stuff, besides it's not like gil really matters that much.
Different players are going to have different opinions on how important gil is.
To those who get most of the things they want by buying them from others, gil is important. If they don't feel any of the ways to earn gil is fun, they're more likely to turn to RMT.
Having game companies sell game currency direct to players doesn't always have a positive impact when it comes to reducing RMT activity. Certainly it didn't help in WoW's case (but then again Blizzard got stupid and greedy for the $5 per token they were making). The RMT sellers increased the amount of gold received per dollar to stay competitive not to mention they would guarantee fast delivery. How fast a WoW token would get purchased off the AH was unpredictable. Sometimes it was only an hour, other times it would take a couple of days.
There is no solution to RMT other than for players to decide they aren't going to engage with it. That's not going to happen as long as people are more obsessed with who owns what instead of who does what (or better yet, just worrying about what they personally do instead of comparing themselves to others).

It doesn't. It only makes it worse because the same people that been farming and selling it will predict the value of it because it raises and drops and then make money out of it and contribute to the cycle. You are only growing the sources in which they can obtain said gil/gold. The reason this system works in games like EVE is because the economy is very player driven and greatly different from wow/ffxiv
But its not a bad thing to introduce a system like this for those that dont want to pay a sub. =P
Posting here to gloat over all you naysayers. SE did add options for regex muting of RMT phrases. I knew it could be done, and all your knuckleheads who shot down the idea have a heck of a lot of egg on your faces.
The only thing I wish now is an option for when phrases which match expressions can be added automatically to the local muted list to save me the trouble of doing it manually.
Anyway, apologies are pre-accepted for some of your incredibly boorish posts. It's OK to admit you were wrong.

Of course it could be done. It took 1 plogon dev about 30 seconds to cobble it together during a coffee break years ago.Posting here to gloat over all you naysayers.
