So the closer I get to finishing Endwalker on my alt the more I realize that even with my knowledge of things I can throw away to prevent hoarding, there are things such as materia, dyes, fishing tackles, and misc things like the fireworks that I still severely struggle with. As I doubt we will ever get a larger inventory, or more than two free retainers, I really wish we had new separate inventories for these things.

I try to keep my dyes in my chocobo saddle bag, but I realized only recently that if I had 1+ of every dye it wouldn't all fit in the bag, meaning I have to story these other dyes somewhere on one of my retainers. My retainers holding all of my crafting garbage, materia, and fishing tackles. I don't really expect them to make something for materia or even the fireworks, but I do really hope they add a tackle and bait bag and something for dyes.

I'm aware I have a hoarding problem.... but I also know I'm not the only one. PLEASE give me some leeway I don't want to buy more retainers

ny subscription is 30 bucks because I need alot of inventory space which imo is pretty scummy to be charging me real money to get more inventory and bank space.

not even in the old mmo called WoW do they charge you for bank space with irl currency.

2 retainers is more than enough, just get rid of the muck you don't need. Their biggest issue is glamours atm, just get a glamour book that you apply glamours to when you obtain the item so you don't need to hold on to it. Would save on their server resources too.

Guild Wars 2 has used this system for years. Saves so much space. Personally I only use the first 4 rows on my first page of inventory and a good portion of my chocobo saddle for totems/relic/materia holding. My retainers are all practically empty and have been since ARR.

I have only the two default retainers and zero problems keeping my inventory managed. Try not hoarding.

Unless the dyes are rare, toss em. Old materia, same thing. For fishing tackle, I went about it by only doing one expansions worth of big fish at a time, so I didn't save tackle for fish outside that. If general fishing, only buy what you need for that fish, and when done, toss it. scrips and gil is easy to come by, no need to hoard them.


Fireworks, and usable items? I have a retainer full of htem because I'm a hoarder and didn't want to miss out on them if I ever wanted to use them, but I can say I have yet to pull them out of that retainer at all, so its clearly space going to waste.


I have 2 extra retainers, and 1 is filled with big fish because I decided about halfway through heavensward to hold onto them all, in case I could throw them in an aquarium later on. I could probably whittle that down to 1 extra retainer if I really wanted to, but I like having one of each type so...





My rule for glams also, if its from a leveling dungeon, and I'm not expecting to use it any time soon, I can get rid of it because those are easy to get back. If its from a level cap dungeon or an alliance raid, I'll hold onto it if I know I'll use it at some point. Anything bought with tomes can get tossed if its not an immediate usage.

Unless you're doing Master/Expert end game recipes, crafting materia is mostly useless as long as you keep your crafting gear up to date. Sell it.

Unless you're doing current high end EX trials, Savage/Ultimate raids, combat materia is 100% useless (you don't get any benefit from it in level synced content). Sell it.

The only dyes worth keeping are the GP dyes you know you're going to use and aren't at rock bottom prices on the marketboard. Sell the rest.

Don't hoard fishing tackle that you aren't using on a weekly basis. Buy what you need when you need it. Discard or sell it when you're done.

Dump the fireworks/Magicked Prisms. You've probably never used most of them outside of testing one when you first got it. It doesn't hurt to keep a stack of Realm Reborn Red, Heavenscrackers and Meteor Showers but dump the rest that you aren't using frequently or never use. You can sell them cheap on the marketboard now to make inventory space then buy them back cheap in the future when you actually want to use them (which will probably never happen).

You're right that you're not the only one with a hoarding problem but you don't help hoarders by giving them more space. That just encourages them to keep hoarding. Take this as an opportunity to learn to control the compulsion to hoard.

Somewhat ironically, I disagree with this.

But it's not because of inventory space. It's because market listings are tied to retainers.

40 listing spaces is not enough for an active player, especially if they are into crafting/gathering. Unless SE is going to either greatly increase market listings per retainer or detach listings from retainers and go with a different market system, players will continue to get more retainers even if the inventory space is mostly/completely empty.

But then we have specialized inventories for Eureka, Bozja and Island Sanctuary.

Well the inventory is tied to the zone I guess. But why not some sort of workshop - a special zone for crafting with a specialized inventory for your mats?

But nope, instead we got a bastardized bank they throw patchwork at once every few months.

A lot of my space issues came from the large amount of Furnishings I had nowhere to put- I'd have liked to be able to Use them and store them in the Housing inventory even if I didn't have a House or Apartment
