Who is "near everyone"? I've only ever seen this idea come up a couple of times and only on these forums and I've seen more people disagree with it than agree with it.

"Modern white mage gameplay has aero and stone but not as much water so therefore WHMs in the game's lore must not have used water and that caused the calamity because there was a water imbalance" is a silly theory. I asked for a source and you provided an empty wiki page and a quote that didn't exist.

I'm not going to provide any other possibilities because I don't need to. We have the old elemental story and that's as close as we have of something that's actually written into the game and not a player's idea that's based on their interpretation of game mechanics. I'm not going to speculate further because I don't like making stuff up from thin air and spreading it around like it's real. You still haven't responded about your idea of "Nym being focused on wind" either and I can't find any source for that.

Unless the game, a future encyclopedia, or an interview with Oda/Koji mentions the lack of water spells being the cause of the flood, then I'm going to throw it back in the pile of weird fanon along with "Miqo'te only live to be 40". Until then, we have no stated reason in game that says WHMs having access to just Aquaveil (and Fluid Aura) drowned Eorzea.
