Why the delay in MSQ jump potions?

i have friends and family eager to jump
into the game but don't have the time to commit to finishing the current MSQ before Dawntrail arrives. What is the holdup with adding the tales of adventure potions to the online store? Seems like a mistake waiting until we get closer to expansion before adding them. You guys are missing out on revenue

It's the way they've always done it since adding the boost/skip potions. The updated potions get added when the next expansion is released.

I don't understand why not getting up to date with the MSQ before DT release is relevant, though. That sounds like something more for your convenience over trying to help them have a good game experience.

As for "You guys are missing out on revenue", that may not necessarily be true. Only SE has the statistics on how many new players buy a story skip before they've ever completed the MSQ as intended and are still active 6-12 months later. For a genre that relies heavily on sustained player interest and not short term profits, I suspect they'd rather have your friends and family take their time and decide that they enjoy the game so they stay subscribed instead of blowing an extra $60 upfront, deciding the game is boring with nothing to do a month later and quit.

If the "buy a skip and jump almost straight to endgame" worked well when it came to retaining new players, I'm sure they would be marketing the Tales of Adventure much more aggressively than they do.

Just get your friends and family to buy the starter edition to try the game out. If then they do enjoy the game enough, they can buy Dawntrail and decided if they want to skip or if they'd rather play it through. Level Sync and NG+ will let you play with them as they get to experience the entire game, and not just the part you care about.

EW can be done over a weekend, I'm sure your friends and family can find some way to complete it in one burst or small chunks over time before DT arrives w/ the current skip potion. It's that or wait two months to touch the game, so whatever is more convienent.

EW is the shortest of all the MSQs if you skip all cutscenes. Just rush through it.

If Square was smart they would release the jump potions [and set them to DT not EW start] and new characters 2-3 weeks before new expansion dropped.

People will be caught up ready to rumble on release.
They will have used 2-3 weeks of their monthly subscription and you can bait them into getting another month out of it.
You remove the frustration of catching up on release day.
You remove the multi queuing on launch when people have to log in, get the book, read the book, log out and log in again, repeating again if you want to change to another race. That's up to 3 10k+ queues these lads have to sit through.

    But, what do I know.

if they aren't interested in MSQ : 9 days and 10 hours, it's the time it took me from the start to the latest patch (all battle content unlocked and done except bozja and eureka) on my "speedrun" alt. which means you can clearly go faster by ignoring side content not tied to msq until you reach 90. and like someone said by doing the free trial you can play for free for most of that "time" (ShB and EW take like 40 hours if you skip cutscenes)
