That is the case. If you look at the screenshots for 2.0 there's a U shaped inventory, Yoshida specified that is your equipped gear and since that is it's own little inventory it would be fair to expect that the actual gear doesn't use any space in your packs.
How does your thread from almost a year ago complaining about the extra 100 inventory slots they gave us have anything do with this thread?I have a thread about this: http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...a-100-slots!!!

retarded thread from almost a year ago*
Maybe we will get FF XI-esque gobbie bag quests that gain you access to different sized bags to equip in your bag slot or w/e. That would be cool. Just have them work kinda like the soul gems, where you just have access to them after doing certain quests and don't take inventory space themselves, they just increase ur main inventory as you equip them.
Even better, we could have different bags for different item types. Let's say only doh/dol tools, dow/dom weapons or like raw materials in different bags, and you can only equip one. So if you do a lot of one of those classes you can get bonus inventory space. Not saying that we shouldn't be able to already carry all of those at once somehow anyway, but those specific bags would give you extra regular inventory space and make it easier for ppl that are hardcore at a specific role.

I dont mind quests to unlock the functions at all. But if they remove functionality and dont replace it with something equally useful then thats a mistake.

From what I've seen and heard about it, it works fine. Don't worry about it and if it sucks during the beta they'll change it.
