Overall, I think the graphics updates look very clean, and the changes seen in the overworld are very nice! I'm looking forward to seeing Tural in all its HQ gloryHowever, I just wanted to give some feedback about the F Seeker of the Sun Face 3.
For reference, these are the character customization options I use:
- Female Seeker of the Sun
- Face 3
- Eye shape 4
- Nose 3
- Mouth 4
I also turned gamma correction down to 0 in the Benchmark.
I think most of the changes have translated over quite well. The hair looks very clean, the skin textures have been upgraded, and everything in general appears very HD!
I think the eyes appear wider because lower waterline is thicker, and the undereye fat is more pronounced. The eyes also appear as if they are widening, even at rest. [6.58]'s resting face looks very neutral and relaxed, whereas the eyes in [7.0] almost appear like they are widened in shock.
The upper lip appears smaller in [7.0], and the lower lip is not as rounded either. The larger eyes combined with the smaller lips gives off a fake, doll-like look.
The nostrils of the nose appear to be slightly widened in the [7.0] version, changing the overall nose shape.
As you can see in this alternative lighting (I intentionally created a lot of shadows on the face), it appears as if the eyes are widening, and the corners of the lips make it seem as though the lips are being pursed, or pulled into an awkward smile.
From the side view, the mouth corners appear pursed as well.
There is also a small section of odd clipping behind the bangs in the benchmark, like there is a section of missing hair.
The changes are very subtle, however, after 9 years of playing with my beloved WoL, the graphic changes have altered her appearance that gives off an "uncanny valley" feeling. Of course I know that the F Miqo'te were designed to be very cute and closer to anime/doll-like face proportions, but I think the changes have made it more pronounced in [7.0].
I think this is a great starting point. I just wish that the shapes from the facial features of the [6.58] models were honored more. Thank you for the opportunity to share this feedback.
