Unfortunately there is no lighting engine in the game and benchmarks. All lights and shadows, you see, are fakes.
Cheers
Yes, it looks drastically better in the update.
Look, I don't want to take anything away from the people complaining right now because I get it. When I looked at my catgirl in the character creator I was like dang, this is different in a way I don't like. But I'll get used to it, or fantasia to something else if it really bothers me. Meanwhile, everything else in the game that isn't my characters face, (which doesn't look bad, it's small alterations that I will almost never notice when not explicitly looking for them) looks a lot better.
The added bones and polys to the face tell me it was. The complaints people have are valid and I hope the grevious ones get fixed up sooner rather than later. But the fact that we can now have our WoLs be animated more intricately makes me excited for what they have in store for us.
Yes the graphical update was a big request from the user base, one thing to note as well is dispite the odd hiccups in the update, this is the first part of a much much larger graphical update so come 8.0 or 9.0 when it's finished and the game will look drastically different to 6.0, like how 1.0 looks different to 2.0
Sometimes you just got to have Some fun
While the graphical uplift has been big request from the community.
I can't but wish they could have spent more time communicating with player base about the upcoming changes to our characters instead of dropping the ball two months before Dawntrail release.
While two months is plenty of time to make adjustments, or even re-do the whole model. It would have been nice to avoid the current situation where good chunk of players are unhappy with the Benchmark presentation of their beloved characters that they have spent years playing with.
this is the type of mentality corporations and greedy companies love...conformism....customers just lowering their heads and accepting the new reality instead of actually showing some guts..Yes, it looks drastically better in the update.

why is WoW living rent free inside your heads?
From their comment, it seems like they believe the graphics are a net positive and that they'd rather have the changes than not.
Feel free to voice your discontent, but personal attacks are super uncalled for and people aren't shills just because they disagree with you.
OP - you are unlikely to get an accurate response picture.
Vocal people who asked for the update will of course be vocal in saying yes.
However, with these types of changes there is always a significant silent majority who love the game, and just keep on playing it.
In answer to your question, I'm not so sure.
Like any company SE have limited resource.
I would have preferred to see this focused on some of the items you suggested, improving actual gameplay, housing etc.
For me I was ok if they didn’t do it but I want the game to thrive and show off its potential. Granted this is just the first update of however many and environmental changes alone it’s nice, I think what you have to understand though is that some of us aren’t as bothered at visuals but when you’re trying to introduce new players to the game you’ve got plenty of mmos on the market that visually look better but art direction is debatable to some.
Either way bring on the change which to be fair I anticipated as just a HD remaster and it loosely is but with some added details here and there and that’s a good start in my book.
Unlike other stuff people actually should be mad about.
This ain't something you should be Chipping In, A Like Supreme.
[Though yes, somethings while superficial and vapid do seem to be Boring Dystopia.]
This ain't one of it.
The Coping/Conforming "You get used to it..," is simply the new/updated effects one has no choice but to accept. like two dye channels, armor reflectiveness, Crystals and water. Subsurface, and shadows.
What people won't sit still for, is getting defanged, Getting a literal neckseam(rather than the fictional tattooed one on Female Au Ra Necks), or the fact that they'll have to keep badgering SE with not only the males, but The Rothgals too.(When it comes to Hair Options)

Yeah, it pretty much was OP.
If the game really planed for about a Decade more of Content/Expansion/Patches.
It needed to ramp up it's basic Foundations(as much as they can)
For whatever reason, they chose Graphics.
Which after it's done, offers them alot of benefits.
But it's like adding a Body Sculpt to a Vehicle that needs to either get Fine Tunning to its Engines/Systems. Or outright replace them.
(The Wear and tear of delaying things like the Glamour system, Storage and ETC will only get rampant later.)
So right now, Probably one of the wisest choices to get "The First Graphical Update" over with.
