Correction: This is apparently an issue with the roof light in the gridania market.
Character shadows are kinda wonky. And this is with all settings max i think 1080p FSR. It looks even worse animated due to pop-in at the slightest movement.

In gameplay you wont notice it, but in cutscenes and glamor and rp, which is a huge portion of the playerbase, it looks pretty terrible up close on characters. Shading on hair is completely gone and there is no environmental shading on characters anymore as you are now a light source. Funny enough it was a bit broken in the original benchmark with the bunny ear lightbulb bugs xD
Shading on hair is gone?? No environmental shading on character???
Do you know the terms your using, need new glasses, or are so left in denial you can't even observe the obvious improvements?
Hair hasn't looked this good in forever, and skin shading is a marked improvement over what we had before.
That's it, I'm taking a break from the forums, you guys genuinely drain me of sanity.
"You have a heart of gold. Don't let them take it from you!"
I’m all for feedback but the last few days I’ve really just come to terms with it doesn’t matter what they do there is going to be some fickle people here moaning their heartstrings out and it’s just saddening. There are massive improvements across the board… people need to understand not everything can be one to one as it were… when you add polygons and new shaders to old stuff it will look different… you can’t tweak it so much to make it as it was… the game is dated and unfortunately for this vocal minority the game needs visual improvements to bring in new players because for some dated graphics is a turn off…the game can’t thrive on the main stayers foreverShading on hair is gone?? No environmental shading on character???

I noticed it right away and I love it.
My hubby couldn't tell the difference.
Commendations.
If I play dps I only give it out to other dps.
If I play tank I only give it out to healers.
If I play healer I only give it out to tank.
Only if they should be getting a commendation.
There are always exceptions to the rules!
I think we needed upgraded textures but not new faces for our characters. Our characters' faces should've remained exactly the same but with improved textures. Heck, I'd have preferred to keep the old textures for my character's face if it meant I got to keep her old look.
The Glamour Effect: That awkward moment when you realize you know FFXIV's gear pieces better than your own wardrobe X'D
Not sure why they made this update only to have Koana's outfit be jarringly pixelated in cutscene close ups.
I feel like that’s because it’s old gear? I swear I’ve seen that gear before. If not hopefully it’s fixed I know npc and gear won’t be addressed until later patches cause people like Hein are untouched.

Cutscenes focusing on characters with brand new gear that looks like this.
Maximum graphics settings

I think an update was sorely needed. Keep in mind this game was originally meant to run on the PS3. Some players weren't even alive when it was released.
I think the problem is that they didn't focus enough on the characters and our feedback. I'm fine with a slow rollout, and any character changes should've been extraordinarily slow. People get attached to their characters in any MMO, but XIV takes it to another level.
The changes to the character models should've been very slow, very deliberate and should've had a lot of dialogue with the player base.
