in the launcher settings, i believe by defailt the gamma is set to 50, which will make a lot of characters look brighter and more washed-out. try changing it to 0-10 and things might look better! but i believe the character creator also just has bad lighting that doesn't show very well how the characters will look in-game.
make sure to leave your criticism constructively!
for me, my biggest gripes are that some of the lips look a LOT darker even without lip color then they originally were "natutally", especially on the male viera i think. i was playing with it last night. i'm also not very fond of how both the male & female viera's noses look skinnier..? i'm not sure how to say.. they just look considerably different. the charming texture shadings on some of the faces seem to have been removed, too, and thats a little disappointing because it adds character. i liked it! they don't have to be...leaning towards realism?
my main gripe is that the eye shine/catchlight can be hard to see sometimes, especially on female viera face 1 because the shadow under her lashes are heavier and cover up the light.
and the female au'ra face 2 lips! i agree, seeing the corners of their mouths changed makes me sad. they were so cute before! also, it seems like the catchlight in their eyes are hard to see, too.
also, when the characters are entirely cast in shadow their faces look very flat and strangely bright still, but i THINK that's a fault of the character creator. not sure.
i do think the colors on hairs are a bit bright? that's about all i remember that i didn't like, though, other than female seeker of the sun miqo'te face 1 cheeks look so chubby haha.
oh. and keepers of the moon apparently had their fangies stolen and people are upsetti. ( i think both clas should have fangies or it should be a character creator option T B H )
edit: i genuinely suspect we're not supposed to preview our characters in any setting other than the default blue aether one because the characters look so vastly different as you turn your character around in the blue aether versus in the overworld! like the textures and everything is so much more beautiful. but there are still issues like the catchlights/vacant eyes. but i wonder if the blue aether background is what they'll look closer to, which sucks because it's also not great lighting sdglkas
like consider the difference between this SAME character but in the separate background previews...
i don't think what you see in the other backgrounds is supposed to reflect how they'll appear in-game .. hopefully. lol
like girl what is this
there's no way the gridania setting shading is what we should be expecting xD
