    Getting started...

I am new to the FFXIV community so just want to start by saying hey!
Anyways, my question is when does a group become neccessary? I played FFXI for a couple years starting right about when COP released and thats still my favorite MMORPG. I had this same problem when I started that game where it took me a long time to figure out when the good group xping started taking place.
I have been playing a few hours on and off now on Ragnarok and I see quite a bit of traffic but noone really LFP. Is there a specific zone I should been checking out for around level 15 groups or do I have to grind out more solo levels yet?

I appreciate any advice, thanks guys.

    Mel.

You can solo all the way to 50 (mainly using leves), although it is faster to level up by slaughtering groups of monsters in a group (people start grouping around 20~30). You can also be powerleveled, if you're into that.

Unfortunately for partying, there are a few things working against you.
    1) There currently isn't a large influx of new players.
    2) A lot of people have leveled what they want to level.
    3) Since you can solo, some people choose not to group at all.
    4) The search system kinda sucks and isn't used much.

I haven't leveled anything in a while, so I can't really comment on the current status of the leveling scene (plus I'm not on your server), however people used to just shout in Ul'dah for parties.

If you continue solo (or even in a group), there is a dungeon called Sposhae, East of Limsa Lominsa, that is an "open-world dungeon" that might spice up leveling if leves are getting boring.

Thanks for the info, though it is sad news indeed. It's hard for me to imagine playing through this game without constantly grouping. I guess it isn't as much a successor to FFXI as I had hoped for. I was looking forward the old "stumble across a good group get invited to join a linkshell and create a strong bond that leads to good memories" way of leveling up. Maybe that kind of MMORPG has died or something.
Oh well, ill keep an eye for some shouts and check out the dungeon, hopefully i'm not far too late and something turns up.

    Cheers.

It's just the state of the game at the moment, most people that are wanting to start are waiting until 2.0. That said make a post on your server forums and try shouting in-game for a newbie-friendly linkshell, although you should do that in Ul'dah since it is the current game hub. You can also team up with people at camps that you are doing leves at or just plain offer to team up with anybody you run into that's around your level.
