    100 inventory slots?

Does anyone know why they are doing this?

Is it to increase the use of purchased retainers?

Will there be questable bags to increase item storage?

Considering the amount of jobs one plays, crafting professions and mats needed for those crafts, I would think keeping inventory at 200 would be a good idea, unless they mean to make item storage expansion quests.

Is there any information released about this?

They say that the equipment you wear will be handled by 'Manequins' (a new concept to also be introduced). This is assumed to NOT count towards your inventory limit. Therefore Inventory should mainly be consumed by crafting materials, food, drops, etc?

Also, your main inventory is being dropped because (don't quote me on this) they're adding additional inventory elsewhere.

Chocobo pack? Personal housing storage? I'm not sure what.

Ahhh sound logic on SE's part. As long as its all interestingly developed and interacting with said manequins, chocobos and other item storage vehicles is not too time consuming that it becomes a hassle. Having already had a 200 slot inventory I think it would be unfortunate for players to be constantly thinking "boy this is a drag, moving around my items all over the place. 200 slots was so much more manageable".

    Thanks guys

If you can't access 100% of your stuff aside from what's on retainer while in the field, any new system will be completely fail.

No extra fee for your mules. If you don't have a legacy account you need to pay the standard account for mule (same feature as the legacy account, but $14,99/month)

The inventory system is being revamped for 2.0. More useless items are going to be phased out, and as far as I know there will be bags. (what the pack slot is for?)

They might make equipped items not count against inventory space like some games, which would free up quite a few spaces as well.

That is the case. If you look at the screenshots for 2.0 there's a U shaped inventory, Yoshida specified that is your equipped gear and since that is it's own little inventory it would be fair to expect that the actual gear doesn't use any space in your packs.
