If you tank him with your back against the wall (I'm assuming you are doing this) , you have to run through him to get out of range. You might do better if you tank him in the open so you can run directly backwards, giving you more time to get away.

If your know that your party has high DPS you can have your back against the wall. Rotate Sentinel, Aegis Boon ,Divine Veil +Stoneskin (If you are on full HP) and Hollowed Ground if necessary.

As has been mentioned, Tanking him such that you don't need to run through him helps a lot. If you are doing the method where you pull him over to the nook in the wall, I always just pulled him over there, then ran to his left (my right) side, so i could just away from him across clear ground. Now I pull him where he stands, going again to his let (my right) and just run away from him to the side if I must. I generally prefer to just mitigate the attack, holding boon, sent, and dv.

Also.... some of the others are saying they use this time to flash/voke him.... you guis actually use those during this fight rather than holding them strictly for Animal Instinct? O.o That works? What if he uses AI in the 30 second cool down >_>;;; I mean, I've had situations where he spammed it, but I tend to hold rampart for that. Also, never lose threat on him using flash/voke only at initial pull/after AI. And we're doing 17min clears so its not like the DD are slacking.

I could write a book on this...

It is so bad that that split second it takes to run through him to avoid a Swipe
    is already too long...
It dosen't matter how soon i start running, Swipes i will eat unlike the swing in which i run back
away from CC and not through him.

    "Latency"

When a party member DC's in a dungeon i hear people say "you are out, you can re enter"
and it takes about 1~2 seconds for me to see the "light party" ban on my screen...

    "Latency"

In Chimera i dodge the breathes via battle log and as i am returning to my spot it seems
the breath is right in my face but i aint taking damage. cause i avoided it...

If your mages and DD are smart, the only thing you will ever NEED for Animal Instinct is provoke. If you have good reaction time, you provoke him when he uses Animal Instinct. If you're not flashing red again, Shield Bash him. In the fairly good chance you stun him, you just prevented Eye of the Beholder. At this point, Fast/Flat blade and he's yours again. As long as your mages don't try to cut loose right away again, you have enough time to recover enmity and even Spirit's Within.

Naah, in my groups after animal instict i sometimes do flash, voke and am still in yellow cause they not only pulled but kept hitting it too. I have to run around like crazy trying to establish red flashing again throwing everything i got at him not able to anticipate his 100 Tonze moves while
seing Thunders landing on him non stop the whole time to eventually eat a 100 Tonze move and die.....

And then they like "man try to understand that you need to avoid his moves"

Why do people avoid it on PLD

just straight tank him its not difficult and stops him moving position.

    as mentioned before

save all your damage negating skills for his 100 tonne swing and the rest is gravy

Ok so your whms need to work a little harder but still its much much safer to do it this way.

I can guarantee I will not die to CC if the party watches for animal instinct and acts accordingly.

    Also

In the new faction leve content straight tanking allows a party of 6 monks 1 whm and me (PLD) to take down two reasonably similar CCs in 10 minutes.

In conclusion dont run just tank as PLD.

Melee's still have to be on the ball to avoid 100-Tonze Swing you know, there's always the risk with either scenario.
