    Having major problems with Coincounter.

My LS was fighting CC a few times today.

First time: No problems. I could avoid all 100 tonze with EASE. Meaning I ran to my party, could actually turn my camera around in time to see the whole animation of Swing. Was beautiful.

Every other time: I see the indicator he's using a move. At the same moment my eyes glance at chatlog and see "Swing". I run to my party members. And die. I'm on them, and I didn't miss the indicator for Swing.

I wasn't really checking my latency during those fights, but generally I'm double digits sending and receiving. No one's moving weird. My abilities are about half a second off, but that's nothing new really.

Knowing I'm either having latency issues or the server is, I rely on Aegis Boon where I can. Except it doesn't help. I use Aegis Boon, see the whole animation go off, and I still get hit. It's almost comedic, except my linkshell isn't laughing. If I die, we're in deep trouble. I have 0 room for failure on Coincounter.

I know I can tank him. I've done it BEFORE. He isn't hard. But something stopped me today. Does anyone have any advice? I figured if I was having latency issues, I could rely on Boon. Well, that didn't turn out how I expected it would.

This might not happen again. It's just frustrating to know that no matter what steps I took to avoid a 1-hit KO, it didn't help. I wish I had a video of the fights. It was amazing how far away from CC I was and still got hit when no one else did. It was astounding to see my character throw up an Aegis boon when I didn't have the time to run, and I still got hit.

At the risk of sounding stupid, can Aegis boon block Swing? I'm pretty sure I did before, but obviously it didn't help today and I usually don't have problems avoiding Swing, so it's never usually mandatory. But I'm pretty sure I've used it before when I was in a pinch, and it worked just fine. Unless I'm going crazy. And I know I am after today.

So, any tips? I thank anyone for even getting through my rant. It makes me less frustrated to ask for help on forums, and I'm pretty frustrated right now. Makes me not want to tank anymore, even though I know I can handle the job.

And for reference, I've been tanking him on the wall. Does anybody prefer tanking him out in the open and avoiding his swipes and swings easier as opposed to running THROUGH him a further distance to avoid Swing?

    Once again, thank you all.

My tank tanks him out in the open (his back towards the direction you zoned in at) - does a 90degree turn and runs away, CC will miss and fall down. This should make it so your not running towards your party too.

Sounds like your suffering from latency issues overall. There are times it appears to be spot on and you can easily avoid it but after the 2nd or 3rd run you can suffer from it and not even realize it.

Just to be clear though sometimes it's not connection issues, sometimes it can be latency issues with your video card being slow at drawing the animations and showing in the log. Case in point I had some serious issues with Ifrit's Eruptions for some time until I lowered some of the video settings. You might try and lower them and see if you have any improvements.

Coheir's got the right of it. I turn my graphics settings down to damn near minimum during raids to ensure hardware isn't an issue. Other suggestions would be to turn off as many background programs as you can during the fight to make sure that FFXIV is getting the brunt of your computer's processing and so on.

If lag is an issue I would not rely on running from 100T Swing, I would stick to aegis boon + rotating sentinel and divine veil.

You should have a log window dedicated to "Coincounter readies 100T Swing" etc and nothing else so its dead obvious what move is next. Same goes for any boss fight with insta gib moves.

The lag in CC is a MAJOR pain, and it took a long time to get comfortable tanking it. However, even if you use all the tips Im gonna outline below, understand that you need flawless reaction times and and almost have to be telepathic about expecting him to swing.

    1. He CAN use 100 ton swing as his very first move. He will also use it directly after Animal Instincts pretty often instead of Eye of the Beholder. Outside of your initial hate spike, NEVER DO ANYTHING until you see him WS. Save your vokes/combos until you see him 10ton hit or something that wont kill you.

    2. Put your face, IN HIS CROTCH. As close as you can possibly get without him turning around. The horns from my MRD helmet are inside his nutsack. Any less distance to run the better, and that one less step can literally make the difference for every dodge.

    3. IDK about PLD skills really, but if you know you are screwed you can pop Sentinel, Featherfoot, or Foresight and probably survive.

    4. After 40%hp he will spam his killer abilities. When it is the final 30 seconds of the fight, you might as well just start running as soon as he gets back up.

    5. GLower and 100 ton SWIPE can easily be dodged, just run straight forward a couple steps and use the opportunity to voke/combo/pop abilities.

Good Luck man, its a really really tricky fight to tank just because of the lag and latency and w/e, but once you get the hang of it it becomes pretty easy.

Just try to get right up in his balls, so when he starts to swing you run straight and have a couple less steps to run.

Tank as a pld and eat all his 100 swings?? Sentinel will negate one, divine veil will, Rampart, aegis boon , etc.. all of these will stop 100 Swing and allows no need to move and reposition.

Pretty sure you have to be facing your target in order for shield skills to proc. So could explain why Aegis Boon failed you as you were running away.

Why are you running through him to avoid 100t Swing? Why not run straight to your left or right so you can get clear of Swing faster?

The biggest help I found in tanking CC was when I realized he has specific tells to what move he is readying. This way you can watch him and react a bit faster than waiting for him to ready a move and having to look at chat log, etc.

    * Raises club in air with one hand = 10/100t Swipe (can dodge it easily by running forward if you are up between his legs)
    * Raises club in air with two hands = 10/100t Swing (run to either side to avoid)

    Hope that helps!

With lag, I find it easier to watch the battle log than animations except in the case of Ifrit.

Just limit out everything in your battle log except successful hostile actions against you, and you'll be golden. The only text you'll see in there will be something like "Coincointer readies 100 ton swing". That should give you slightly more time to avoid the attack.

Thanks for all of the replies peeps. ^^ A lot of information was given that I could have used during my tanking runs. While I did know about the 1-hand/2-hand trick, I do rely on my log. I'll see if filtering out more stuff helps even more with tanking him.

I also didn't try Sentinel/Divine Veil on swing. I'm gonna try and get the hang of avoiding it, but it's good to know I can fall back on other abilities when possible.

Thanks again guys. And let this topic help other Paladins who might be looking for tanking tips on Coincounter.
