I actually noticed the same thing when creating my Hrothgar.
Her face is multiple shades lighter and more grey toned than her body. This is more noticeable on darker colors.

I came here to say exactly this. Tried to make a Hrothgal with the darkest skintone, and her head is just weirdly grey where her body is almost black. It looks so out of place.

AGREED. I was trying to make an all black panther-like color palette and the face is so much lighter than the rest of the body. I realize this is probably done to ensure visibility of facial expressions?? (or something idk) but it also looks so silly, especially on the warmer skin colors where the face is so washed out!
