It seems to me that the effect is also intensified due to the fact that the outer corner of the eye itself has slightly changed.
In addition to the thickness of the eyelashes, their location has also shifted slightly downward in this new outer corner, which further enhances the doll effect that the author wrote about. This doesn't look like proper eyelash placement at all. The previous option looks much more natural, so I understand why many people are upset by the thickness of their new lashes.

Edit: Lining them up and looking at them it's almost like... I donno... They flipped the lashes? New ones def seem thick in the outer corner, thinner on the inner and it opposite for the old ones.

I believe they increased the density of the eyelashes across the board with 'longer' shape at the edges. It gives a fake lashes/heavy mascara look, while the eyeliner on the upper waterline + eyelid increases that effect.

The old one had no eyeliner and the lashes were abit more sparse and somewhat evenly spread. For my eyes at least.

Here's another slider from face on view. You can see it abit more here I guess? The angle is abit off though so they're not lining up well due to the character breathing ahaha

They're going to do an update on the Benchmark everyone! Hopefully this addresses some of our issues.

It should have been pretty obvious that some of the issues were the character creator, why didn't they notice before they released the benchmark *shrug*

Like I said earlier and elsewhere, I'm sure some of these issues won't be in the game because the benchmark is just a subset of what is in the game to begin with, and you can go look at some of the ARR and HW era gear in the creator and clearly see those are low-quality textures. It'll just be a question of what still get's overlooked in the release build of the game.

But at least they addressed some of it.

I was actually stressing a bit about the changes to my look, till I went to see what happened with Pokémon Go's update. I was crying laughing and after seeing that mess, I think I'm okay with how I look!

My guess is they changed them because the most popular mods people use are adding lashes and make up on their characters. It’s probably why the devs decided to make the lashes thicker and longer now. I don’t think they look fake, but they do make the face 4 mooncat cuter imo.

I’m 99% pleased with how my character looks (though I can’t try my hairstyle on the benchmark but oh well). My only personal complain is that the skin looks like wax. I don’t know how to put it but it looks just… off.

Psst, you can copy over your character's appearance save DAT file from "\Documents\My Games\FINAL FANTASY XIV - A Realm Reborn" to "\Documents\My Games\FINAL FANTASY XIV - A Realm Reborn (Benchmark)" and rename it to "FFXIV_CHARA_BENCH##" (fill in the ## with a 2 digit number) and be able to generate your live character's customization options for the benchmark simulation. (hair might be buggy tho)

I'm glad that you do! But I personally think these eyelashes are too much, I really loved the way the old lashes looked that they didn't curl up and had an almost downward sloping look to them. She had a bigger nosebridge with a bump on it that was sandfiled, I was really happy with the way she looked and I'm sad that 'flaws' that she had that to me made her charming to me got standardized. I think this is personal preference, but I think they shouldn't have gone that overboard. Alot of eyeshapes look very same-y now because all I notice is the heavy copy pasted thick eyelashes.

1. Stick to the original look
2. Add a toggle

If they really are inspired by mods then this change should be optional rather than 'this is what you get now'. I don't even have any other eye options that has sparser eyelashes because they ALL have the same copy pasted eyelash design. Don't get me wrong, I think she's pretty, but I also think alot of the old charm that I chose is gone.
