"While preserving the overall look that you know and love!"
Well guess what. The "overall look that I know and love" wasn't preserved at all
I don't love it, I hate it completely. They missed the mark absolutely

There is also the japanese fanfest comment about people loving the dead eye Au Ra that aged like fine milk.
I'm pretty sure that was referring to the pupils which they enlarged with no rhyme nor reason not about the dead eye epidemic on all races due to no catchlights and undertuned reflection.

Yeah, those referred to how the limbal rings were so bright they sometimes hid the eyecatch, or how the reduced color depth in Dunesfolk eyes could make them seem doll-eyed. It was something that while still not to everyone's taste still fit more within the style of the game.
I wanted to share my character as well. Mine is Midlander face 3, which looks strange at first in the character creator, but with some customization creates an expressive, wide-eyed babe with a cute set of puffy cheeks. If you look at this side-by-side (Original left, benchmark right) the face is overall less round and more narrow. The eyes are less defined, and the nose (glad they fixed the tip) looks like it goes deeper into the face, but I'm pretty sure that's because my cute, round face was toned down. Maybe some people consider the round face and puffy cheeks to be jarring or unattractive, but I personally like them.

I also see that the eyes, the shape of the nose, the nasolabial area and the shape of the chin have changed.I wanted to share my character as well. Posted my feedback on JP side. I guess this is the best place to provide feedback for ENG side so I gonna post here too just in case.
Tldr; Overall I am happy with the update. For my character a tiny fix around the eyes will be nice.
My character is Hyur Midlander with Face 3. I tried to keep the lighting and camera angle as close as possible. I never touch the gamma or lighting settings it should be default.
Overall I have no problem with the new smooth look, I think I can get used to them. The new textures are nice and is an upgrade.
However there's definitely something off that made it look very different from the original, like the personality didn't match. And I deduced that it's the eyes.
>>>The current one has very clear eyelid line.
>>>The 7.0 version eyelid line got toned down. Just some small wrinkles.
The difference is subtle but it does give a different impression for the character and personality.
At first I thought it could only be the type 2 eye I uses, so I tried comparing every eye types and these are the results:
Turns out all eye types suffer the same fate. The very clear eyelid lines got toned down giving a different impression. The older ones looks kinder, calmer, and I personally prefer it that way.
It could be because the new lighting making it brighter around the eyes, still the eyelid shouldn't be erased like this. I would appreciate it if this can be fixed to stay as close to the original as possible.
And out of curiosity I made a simple retouch myself to see if it will actually help. Focus around the eyes.

They are very subtle so here's some gifs.
All I did is make the eyelid lines and the under eye wrinkles a little darker and I'm pretty happy with the results. It is enough to satisfy me. I think they are closer to the original impression. These are just my personal opinion but I hope they are helpful.
Also it appears that the beard still has the old texture.
And that's all from me. Overall I am happy with the new graphic updates. I believe these updates are still the work in progress and I don't expect a drastic changes to be made on time for launch but I am looking forward to it nonetheless.
Reminder not to engage with intentionally disingenuous people. They will take advantage of your distress about losing the character you know and love. They will attempt to gaslight you with pedantic remarks. Your best weapon, as with all trolls, is to simply not engage, and continue to voice your criticisms here. With enough pushback, they will roll it back. The fact remains that our characters have been altered without our consent and regardless of how much. Those that are okay with the changes are entitled to their opinion. Likewise, those who do not, have the right to be disgruntled about a decision that affects their enjoyment of the game greatly.
If you're feeling mad about your character not being the same: congratulations.
It means you're passionate about the game and your way of interacting with it. You're not a weirdo, you do not need to touch grass and you most certainly aren't "taking it too seriously" just because you have grown attached to your virtual avatar. Keep making your voice heard and remember that there's still two months to go. We don't even know how old the benchmark build is. For all we know, they could've fixed these issues already.
