For Viera face 2, jaw 1, nose 4, mouth 2, the overall feel of the face and fidelity isn't maintained. The face itself is slimmer, when the jaw used is the roundest option. The nose bridge is slimmer as well as the nose. The nostrils are smaller and missing the flair the original had. The original's septum is thin, while the benchmark's version is much thicker. There's dark shading on the nose that wasn't there before and while it seems the nose is the same width as before, in the top/down view, it definitely looks smaller because of the way the sculpt was done and because of the textures on the nose, like the dark shading and the poor quality bunny detail. It doesn't really seem to fit the nose and even makes it look flatter when looking at the nose straight on. The lip corners in the new version look weird as there is a line going down instead of it being round like in the original, like it can't contain the bottom lip or something. It's weird and a detail i can't ignore no matter how many times I try. When they initially announced the graphics update and said they'd give us a free fantasia so we can make sure our characters look the way we wanted, i thought they were going to give us more customizable options. But that clearly isn't the case. I have no way of reclaiming the look I fell in love with and that sucks.

Ugh, the permanent eye makeup on female Viera is killing me... ;-;
It really does give that vibe. It's cool with someone wants dark makeup on their bunny, but not all of us wants to rock the glam look. I'm so confused why they added it to the face textures in the first place. Like, we already have an option to give our bunnies eyeliner and/or thicker lashes, so why?
She looks like a completely different person! I need to show a side-by-side comparison of my WoL, but the same happened to her. :/
In my opinion, Viera faces are/were perfect. All they really needed to do was upscale the textures, fix the bones in the ears (and hair) to make them less stiff,give us hats,maybe offer more customization options (if possible, because I remember hearing about engine constraints in the character creator or whatever...I'm not a developer x.x).
I feel like they went and "beautified" so many characters and gave them features that alot of influencers and celebrities use. And for a completely new person I get that they would LOVE to be able to make a generic supermodel ingame. But that isnt really the same character, as you say. You wanted her rounder features and now you have no option of actually making her look like "herself" anymore. that nose makes her look so different....She also looks younger? A lot of characters seem to have lost 10 years while others gained a sickly look. So weird. I hope the new benchmark fixes some of these things, but I doubt it.It really does give that vibe. This is why xiv badly needs reasonable sliders; I doubt they can't modify their current engine to add more; they already modified it for ffxvi so it is possible; they just gotta commit to it instead of shifting people and resources to other games.
On one hand, the new one looks SO much better. On the other hand... it should be a choice. I'm curious why we don't get like two or three different options for where the secondary hair color area is on every hairstyle?I noticed some similar strangeness on my Raava Viera character's eyes too- it's like there is a weird super dark "half-moon" over the top part of her eye that really changes how her resting expression looks.
Her skin is also constantly glowing as well in the character creator, which looks very odd on a character who is supposed to have deep skin, but this at least seemed to be mostly alleviated in the actual benchmark test scenes.
The most significant issue I have with the update is the drastic change that was made to my character's hairstyle, specifically the highlights:
The front of her fringe and her braid have had their highlights completely removed and I'm kind of devastated. As you mentioned, this isn't something I have any ability to change as it is inherent to the hairstyle itself which is extremely frustrating.
This! My viera lookes like she went and got plastic surgery to look more hyur.I feel like they went and "beautified" so many characters and gave them features that alot of influencers and celebrities use.
