And his mouth… That's easily my least favorite part of the new look. It's too dark, the wrong shape, and looks like he has (matte) lipstick on even though lip color is turned off.

I think the dark lipstick with “no lipstick” is a bug, not a re-design. There is a subforum for reporting bugs specifically. It has a bunch of benchmark related already, some were moved to accepted category recently, which is a bit hopeful. Japanese side has even more reported (several pages worth) which also seems to be moving/progressing in status.
