I can't help but also wonder if a lot of the people voicing their complaints have looked at their character through every background and also panned them around? I only question this because I see most feedback coming from people who choose to use Shroud for their screenshot backgrounds and it's kind of known for it's harsh lighting.

When I do that with my rava, the current lighting differences between the Shroud and Noscean backgrounds when I compare them, even with the character directed to (mostly) look at the light source, is huge. Below are before/after shots I've of her in Noscean comparing the current version with benchmark one, but I've also added a extra picture that shows Noscean lighting vs Shroud one.

Graphics are the same thorough and no adjustments to gamma or character appearance apart for hairstyle.

I want to say I lucked out with my female viera as I feel content with how she will potentially be come Dawntrail.
I used Shroud because I feel like with darker skin tones it really can make a difference when it comes to harsh lighting (and I personally like how my character looks in the harsh lighting!) I’ll say I’ve gotten used to how my character looks with the benchmark. The only thing I have a problem with now is that the lips don’t look as dimensional as they used to however all things considered I think they did a good job. I can understand why people say they look expressionless now though. I think it’s the darker arc they’ve put over the eyes. But now that I think about it, maybe that’s something consistent with the Viera race in general and not specific to FFXIV? However overall I think the dev team did a great job! I feel like my character still looks like my character, you know?
