Then they've screwed up. Changes to textures shouldn't make the geometry of the faces look THAT different. Tell me, comparing my face 1 WoL to my face 4 WoL, that they are the same level of similarity, and I'll call you a liar, because they're NOT.Unless i'm mistaken. They didn't change any of the geometry of the faces. Just the textures and shaders. The face is going to look irrevocably different by virtue of that. Because, quite frankly, they were god awful before, and you were used to that.
I'm looking at your screenshots and that's all i'm seeing. Updated textures and shaders that make the shape of the face seem different.
I'm looking at one you posted right now. One screenshot in current graphics looks like you're not reflecting soft ambient light well, and the new graphics look like you are (they also look like they're from different angles so that may also be a factor.). Our characters have never been very good at shading and reflecting/refracting light. Think of those times you might have stood directly under a light source and your character suddenly looked very strange.
Some of the textures do need a second pass. Like the base lipstick on male miqo'te face 4 is a seemingly different shape than the original. The eyes don't feel very lively either. Like they're not reflecting light properly. So that needs to be adjusted. But the overall shape of the face is exactly the same, i'm 99% sure they didn't touch geometry. The way light wraps around things can make geometry look different in a dramatic way.
edit: In-game i use a shader for extra ambient occlusion. It gives my character better artificial shading. It dramatically changes the way my character looks in most scenarios

My friend you need to have your eyes checked because the overall shape is NOT the same. And they're the same angles, just different lighting because they were facing different source lighting. If you can't see how the angles being softened/lids being in different positions is a change in geometry, I don't know what to tell you.I'm looking at one you posted right now. Unfortunately I didn't end up as one of the lucky ones that didn't have much change about their miqo. Loading up the appearance data into the benchmark had my heart drop that my initial concerns born from seeing the preview images on last live letter ended up becoming reality ;
- the nose looks somewhat smaller
- the lip shape is completely thrown off with the upper lip looking slightly more stretched out and the bottom lip doesn't look as full anymore, both because of the shading on it being more flat and that the underlip shadow is just completely gone
- the eyes are just so much more dead and dull after making the upper part of the iris darker , removing highlight and changing the sharp tapering shape of the pupil.
I did also check how he looks in the benchmark itself and not just the character creator and not that much changed. If anything it brought on another problem of how much the new skin texture feels incredibly waxy and off-putting , especially in close up shots. The updated textures for the hair , clothes and overall world looks good! Wish they didn't touch the faces though.
Idk its just kind of a bummer how much it throws off the vibes of what I had in my head for my WoL as a character. Went from having somewhat more lively and fuller defined features to an empty husk of his former self after some plastic surgery lol.
I really think Square underestimate how defining even the smallest features can be for a character and it breaks my heart seeing how many people open up the benchmark to see a character they don't even recognize and knowing the one they've come to love will be gone in 2 months. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
