Benchmark/Graphics Update - Show your WoL's before and after

I don't currently plan on not playing viera on my main char once DT comes around but I'm also not too impressed with how my character looks right now. I normally play on ps5 and don't use shaders even on my laptop so it's not because I'm not used to seeing my character without shaders or anything like that.



I think what's really getting to me is the eyes. In the current version, the eyes look bright and wide and show a kind of life to them; in the benchmark version, the eye shape and the way that the eyelashes angle a bit down makes her look a little more dead inside. Also the face shape/jaw looked a bit more defined in the current version vs the benchmark.


The rest of the graphics i'm seeing are great though - the details of the hairstyles, the quality of the environment in the benchmark character creator. I just wish i liked the way my character looked a little more, but it just has this different vibe right now. Maybe i'll get used to it but...

I completely agree with your feelings about the eyes. It's the same for my character and it seems to affect some people more than others. It just feels strange to see that soft glow get turned into either a piercing stare or dead gaze. I'm hoping it has to do with the lighting because in some pictures it seems completely fine.

Quality is nice. I switched to Face 2 Aura because of the pouty/plump lips. It doesn't have that feel anymore and looks more like a copy of Au'ra face 1. Wish that would be fixed

This is a comparison of the new Face 1 and new Face 2. They look very similar now - almost like they used Face 1 as a template and changed it very slightly

This is the current face 2 compared with the new face 1. There's a noticeable distinction in the mouth and eyes. I love the roundness of the current face 2 which is not really there in the new version.

I ran 7 characters through the benchmark, 4 which I play regularly. I absolutely love my Au Ra, but with this update I can't even look at her anymore. The lighting is horrible, but not sure if that's just a benchmark thing. Features though seriously need adjusting. Specifically the pupils. Also the color saturation on the scale and horns needs to go down. Even the lower eyelids seem to bulge out too much now.

i play my characters since 2016 and they stayed the same since then but with the benchmark they all look too drastically different to be still my original characters, i doubt the free fantasia will do anything since striking features or charm points are simply gone.

Also the skintextures/shadows on skin look very dirty and pixelated. the skin is too waxy. It's a shame they even touched the faces to begin with... personally i think the devs should have stayed with just changing lighting physics, textures of the surroundings, make everything a bit more HD and don't change whole faces. They might have done the characters objectively better but subjectively worse bc of the lost charm points and the uniqueness some of those faces had.

Here's my WoL comparrison.

Left is my edit in Photoshop, middle is the Dawntrail Benchmark, and right is Endwalker. I got pretty lucky, my Warrior of Light still looks mostly like herself. I just feel there's some small tweaks that could benefit everyone. Some of the lighting is off, it really makes the model look more featureless or blurry. The lack of eye shine makes the character look sad or empty. Players from NA and JP are all making some very good comments and critiques. Technically the models are updated and improved, but there's some needed polish.

I am absolutely in love with the update. I can't wait to see my dear WoL like this in cutscenes, gpose and so on. It's her but even more beautiful! This is 1:1 without any changes, I'll probably go lighter on the lips to give less of a makeup look.

I'm also sure this specific hairstyle has no proper highlights implemented yet, but I bet the release version will have it.
