My greatest complain is definitely the lips. Most of them have lost their original shape for a very bland one that looks the same in every character. They also lost their glossiness and gradient textures, which are things I always liked.

If they wanted to provide a more elegant and stoic look, they should've done so through adding a new face option, not replacing existing one. The whole point here is to preserve what players liked about their original choices, not replacing them with things they never were interested in.I'm sorry you're not happy with her, I think the new one looks beautiful, but you're right, it seems she lost a bit of the intensity in her gaze, and it was replaced with a more elegant, stoic look, which depending on what you like can work, but yea, it is subtly different.
At this point my course of action is to change to the only option that even made me remotely fathom the thought of changing from this Au Ra... Viera with Lightning hair. Very different from trying to adjust your existing character around the update changes.
I like how clean the hair looks now, the color of the eye too especially for veenas
but I can't get over the lips/nose.
don't really know how to feel about this
I'm way disappointed in the change, my girl (midlander face 5) just doesn't look like herself anymore.
Left:Current
Right: Benchmark
- The light has left her eyes, literally why did they go for the dead eye look?
- The new skin texture is odd, with how the game is styled its weird to see pores and makes my WOL look like she has a rash when combined with her blush.
- She now has eyeliner on the lower eyes too, which is a look but not for me, this should be a toggleable thing rather than default.
- Her lips are just wrong, other than losing its slight glossy sheen (which she should have as she has lipstick on), the shape is also different and she lost the slight smile she has going on.
- Her face shape also became rounder for no reason and she lost the sharpness in her face which was what I liked about her.
Overall, the character in the benchmark is cute and all but its not my beloved WOL I've been with for years and I hope they make this change optional cos I'm really not feeling it and its killing my excitement for dawntrail
Like, to start of with I do like the color adjustments and some of the textures in the update. I seriously thank the crew for working hard on trying to get this update out for us and letting us play around with it!
...but like a lot of folks I feel like my character's personality went away. Plus smoothing away the more defined features for a softer look makes me sad.
Specifically with the lack of shadows/detail/depth around the eyes and mouths in at least male viera face 4 takes his expression from having this slightly amused character to...empty.

I think it is an improvement the only thing I miss is the lips having that glossy, plump and more full look.
Personally I am very pleased with the way my character looks in the benchmark, with the lighting and textures changes. Only the lips look to me a bit smudged, lacking definition, but maybe I can correct that with a drop of gloss... we'll see. That said, I think it looks very natural and much improved.
I am only posting an image of my character "after" because I don't like the character creation settings, I always found them very misleading. And now even more so, because they don't look upgraded like the benchmark and that might be the main culprit of making many people unhappy. Or so I hope :S

My character looks like dogshit on the benchmark, and unrecognisable.
This is basically how I feel about my Au Ra. They made her a bit more round, lost the sharpness and ultimately ended with a cute looking doll, rather than the sharp beauty I fell in love with so long ago.- Her face shape also became rounder for no reason and she lost the sharpness in her face which was what I liked about her.

I've immediately stopped looking forward to Dawntrail at this point, since I no longer will be able to enjoy it with the character I've been with for so long. And my plan was to replay the game from start through New Game+, to re-live the journey once more... boy is that plan put to shambles now.
I appreciate the work the devs put in but yeah unfortunately I'm literally in the same boat as you - this update smoothed out and took all my character's personality with it too.Like, to start of with I do like the color adjustments and some of the textures in the update. Bummer.
