    My concerns regarding Dyes in DT

    Hello everyone

    We’re all excited for the two dyes system coming in Dawntrail along with the graphical updates and it’s a dream for fashion enthusiasts coming true. However there some concerns that i want to share here to find answers and possibly throw feedback to SE regarding Dyes in this game.

    -of course first thing is, will undyeable gear be dyeable?

    -old gear sets (ARR/HW) gets insanely saturated when dyed, along with few later expansions gear sets that has the same issue (some of the Cryptlurker set for example). Will that still be an issue after the graphical update?

    -since SE has worked hard on gear texture, a lot of gear sets lose some texture when dyed (Yorha 53 sets or Anemos Hat for example). Will that be taken care of after the graphical update?

    -some gear sets have unique colours, so unique that it’s hard to match it with any available dye. Will SE extend dye colours or perhaps adjust some of that unique colour?

    -there are some gear that, when dyed, the colour extends to different materials (Diamond Armor of Fending for example). How will that work with the two dyes system?

    Simple answer, the second dye channel is just that, a new dye channel, it likely won't change how other things are dyed, so if something looks too saturated I doubt that's magically going to change, but maybe the texture overhaul will impact those issues, that said the texture overhaul isn't complete, for example 6.0 relic gear still doesn't have updated textures and won't at launch, they'll be adding more retroactively as they get to them going forward.

    So base game sets probably won't be getting any texture changes for a LONG time if Viera hats are any indication.

    I can see your point but even new gear sets the came out in EW still dye poorly, take the reworked HW artefact you purchase with Crystals for example, base colour and textures are extremely good, however they get downgraded when you dye them, it goes back to the og HW artefact.

    And ofc it will take some time to work on all different gear sets but considering how late expansions gears dyes horribly is concerning imo, let’s hope the graphical update along with two dyes channel can fix these issues, if slightly.

    I actually doubt they will be doing EVERY Piece of gear and allow 2 Channel Dyes on them. There is just so many and a lot are never used. Except of course i missed them saying that they will do ALL pieces of gear. Entirely possible i missed that.
    I do not know how the Coloring System works but it seems like when applying the Color, it uses the "Texture" from the time the Coloration was developed.

    For instance: Gearset gets Color from Heavensward--->Gearset texture "downgrades" a bit towards Heavensward. IF that is the case, i am sure they will have considered and updated that.

    eh? Virtu Dragonlancer dyes completely differently from the original, which is why I use it. Attempting to make the original relic helm white just makes it grey, while right now I am truly a knight in shining white armor

    I seem to remember them saying they would go back and add the second channel to older gear gradually, so it could take awhile. I don’t think I’ve seen them say that everything will be dyeable. Maybe someone will ask that during the media tour.

    Ideally though, it would be… I’d also like to see class restrictions removed from non-AF gear after it’s no longer current. So for example, Dawntrail gear sets maintain class restrictions til 8.0, to keep people grinding for particular sets. After that, they become unlocked and dyeable with both channels, if they weren’t already.

    Why would they ever let any class wear a specific jobs af? Makes no sense and a horrible idea. I hope they never do this as its the af for a reason. Like the set then be the job.

    I specified non-AF gear. So for example, tome gear labeled as casting or striking could be made “all classes” after the next expansion comes out. They have done this in the past so it’s not really anything new, but they stopped doing it around level 60-something.
