Not here to really write a wall of text, just a friendly reminder that the way you get a house in this game sucks eggs.

Yea! go back to the old way
.....
Totally recommend you make a housing alt on OCE and get one there if you're sincere about wanting something more than an apartment. There are over 5000 available plots.
If you're just "no, I want this specific plot, on this specific server" then yeah, that totally sucks for you.
Good luck waiting for a plot to open!
You don't need to be someone struggling to find a house on your server in order to see the system is broken and insanely unfair, though.Totally recommend you make a housing alt on OCE and get one there if you're sincere about wanting something more than an apartment. I dunno, I'm someone not struggling to find a house on my server and I see a whole lot of people rewarding SE month to month with their wallet despite this being such a "BIG" issue.
I find that behavior "broken" and "unfair" to their own values but to each their own. Totally fine if people want to wallow in misery while paying their monthly sub and rewarding SE.
I just got three personal larges on Bismarck and can confirm the ping is fine from NA at least. Come grab one of the open houses with a road to 80 alt if you're really that miserable while you wait for something to open on home base.
I'm not someone struggling to find a house is my entire point. I had a Small, found out I didn't really use it to the point that it was demolished and I didn't even care. I was just slightly weirded out by the fact that I received no notification of it having been demoed. Once I decorated the house and garden, there was not much to do besides gardening and I didn't find that all too interesting, either.I dunno, I'm someone not struggling to find a house on my server and I see a whole lot of people rewarding SE month to month with their wallet despite this being such a "BIG" issue.

There are plenty of free Smalls on Zodiark that I could grab at any point. Even in desirable locations (aka not the Goblet). I probably won't because the housing in this game is just not for me. We have an amazing FC house that has everything I need anyway.
That doesn't make it a fair system. Why should some people have a house just because they have been playing the game longer than other people who would also like a house? Why is the amount of Medium and Large houses several times smaller than the demand? They get dozens of bids every time, yet the Smalls sit there unwanted. There is zero reason for either of these situations besides "that's just how the game has always done it" and that just isn't good enough.
While small does have the best item to space ratio, larges offer additional flexibility in design because of the much larger open spaces and the higher item limit. It really depends on what someone wants to accomplish with their house. This is false even at a non-subjective stand point. You don't get enough items to properly fill a large so you either have to chop off the basement or have a lot of empty space.
Smalls are unironically the best for using the space to its full potential without looking like part of your floorspace is going bald.
Broken? Yes.
Unfair? No. No one is being treated unfairly. Everyone has the option to transfer to a world where there are plots available if they want a house that badly.
I already have a large house. That doesn't make me exempt from making a post like this :PTotally recommend you make a housing alt on OCE and get one there if you're sincere about wanting something more than an apartment. There are over 5000 available plots.

Housing does suck. But if they made apartments more viable then that would help with the housing just a bit. https://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/threads/477393
That thread covers what would be ideal and was originally created by Little Arrow.
1. Add an instanced "outdoor" porch:
This to me is possibly the biggest feature that could help players feel they're not missing out on not owning a home, but also not taking away from those that do. A small porch / outdoor area where people can decorate with outdoor furnishing would add more value to the seasonal events and foster good will with players. It wouldn't be as big as the small house yard, but it would at least give players an option.
2. Increase the floorspace (not the floors):
Currently the floorsize of an apartment is not terrible, but could be increased. I could be wrong, but it seems smaller than the basement of small houses. I think it should be increased to the size of the basement of small houses. (I personally believe this should be increased further to the first floor of a medium house) This would be a great quality of life change for apartments and still preserve the special feeling of small/med/large houses of having mult floors.
3. Increase the item space:
Personally, all houses should have an increase item size of at least 50-100. Again, this would allow players more options and higher value all the furnishings added to the game.
4. Provide an option to upgrade apartments to multiple floors in the future:
This is a shot in the dark, but maybe the apartments could be provided with upgrade feature to increase the floors to a small/med/large (penthouse!). Although the outdoor space would stay the same or increase only slightly (still keeping value to the houses), this would provide so many players with the fun of having a home without the disappointment of the very limited current housing system!

Honestly, I love gardening and if they would just let me have a balcony in my apartment that I could garden in, or even let me drop plots on my island sanctuary, then I wouldn't be so desperate for a home of my own. I used to have a medium (before the lottery) but lost it when RL hit me hard. Been trying to get a small just so I could garden again and it has been hell trying to get even a small plot on my server. But then again, I wasn't expecting Faerie to become the new Balmung of Aether when Balmung was removed. *sigh*
1. Should be possible, not only with existing apartments but housing as well.Housing does suck. But if they made apartments more viable then that would help with the housing just a bit. https://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/threads/477393

2. I *believe* there was already a mention about this kind of idea at a Fanfest, where they were toying around with making the insides bigger, i.e., a small house interior could be upgraded to a medium size (or something along those lines - I'm trying to go through Fanfests and look for it).
3. This is already planned after Dawntrail release, increasing glamours and inventory for housing. I don't remember how clear it was to drop more items on floors, but at least inventory is going up.
4. I think this might be an option (#2) but would be nice to have this implemented for all apartments, and be an option to players.
