[Backstory]
I have been playing FFXIV on PC with a Nintendo Switch Pro Controller.
Steam treats my controller as an Xbox controller and this works perfectly fine.
The button prompts all match as expected.
Plus the confirm/cancel buttons are exactly how I want them to be, with confirm being A (the right button on Nintendo controllers) and cancel being B (the down button on Nintendo controllers)
I would not want to play a game with a different confirm/cancel layout because I have over a decade of muscle memory with this control scheme across a plethora of Nintendo and PC games.
While this works fine for every other use case, the single place it falls short is in the cross hotbar.
The cross hotbar is aligned to the xbox standard, with A on the bottom, B on the right, X on the left and Y on the top.
This causes me to hesitate and misinput actions on this cross hotbar because I will see an action mapped to the right and think "I should press the a button since that is on the right", but if I do that it would instead trigger the action mapped to the bottom.
So I have 8 actions on the hotbar I feel confident in using (the dpad buttons) and 8 actions on the hotbar I feel unconfident in using (the ABXY buttons).
This hinders my ability to perform in combat with classes that have me use a lot of varied actions.
I could fix this cross hotbar misalignment by mapping my ABXY buttons to BAYX.
But that would cause all the in game button prompts to appear incorrectly, and it would cause confirm and cancel to be on buttons I am uncomfortable with.
[Feature Request]
My request is for an option to change the order of the cross hotbar's buttons.
Namely to swap the cross hotbar's left and top actions and also swap the cross hotbar's right and bottom actions.
It is insufficient to simply change the controller button prompt icons in the center.
We need the ability to swap the rectangular buttons themselves.
I cannot achieve this through the in-game UI settings because if I try to move a button in the cross hotbar, it moves as one large connected block instead of 16 seperated buttons.
Adding this feature will allow the cross hotbar to visually match the scheme on a Nintendo controller.
It will do so while maintaining the correct button prompts and having confirm on A and cancel on B.
This alone would make playing the game with a nintendo controller perfect, even without adding true support for it.
I apologize if these forums are an improper place to ask for this sort of thing, but I think this change would hugely elevate my gameplay experience, as well as many other people who use nintendo controllers.
