Possible error with my auto-text advance?

    Hello.

I just came back to the game a few days ago after a couple months of break. During that time, all of my customized settings in-game had somehow been lost and I was prompted to create a new character even though I had never uninstalled the game for my entire break. I used the Restore Files option in the launcher to try and fix that which only got me back into my character. I had to reset hotbars, keybinds, portraits, etc.

I mention this because I think it may somehow be related to my actual issue: When I try to enable auto-text advance via the spacebar in a cutscene, I get the correct window pop-up that tells me the auto-text feature is indeed enabled/disabled with spacebar, except nothing happens. The icon in the bottom right does not change to the wheel like it's supposed to. It was just a little irritating after having to re-customize my game back to everything it should have already been at for a few hours.

I've searched online and the only relevant problem I can find is a Gamefaqs thread from 2019 where it doesn't look like the OP's post was meaningfully resolved. I've asked other players in-game and out of the game if they've ever had this problem and nobody I've been in contact with has. I tried getting in contact with a GM and was given a copy-paste response about how they can't help me with in-game content even though the problem really isn't related to content. It's a feature that isn't working right on my end for some reason. I've reinstalled the game twice since regaining access to my character and the problem persists. I mentioned having to rebind some keys above which is true, but I haven't rebound the spacebar or any other key I believe to be problematic. Spacebar is still the default for me (jumping). The only thing I can think of at this point is to attempt to connect a controller to try and turn the feature on with triangle instead, but I can't do that for a few more days since I'm currently away from my normal setup where my controller is.

If anybody might have another suggestion, I am more than happy to engage in a dialogue about this. It's not a game-breaking issue for me or anything, it's just irritating that it's one tiny thing I can't get back to the way it was prior to restoring my files using the launcher.

    Thanks for reading!

Good morning! Thank you for posting in the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums.

From the description provided, it sounds like your local files may have been corrupted. Please note, uninstalling/reinstalling the game would not affect these local files. Unfortunately the fix may cause you to have to redo your in-game settings once more:

    - Please go to 'My Documents' > 'My Games' > 'Final Fantasy XIV - A Realm Reborn' and delete that folder. If there are any corrupted files that are associated with the characters, this will get rid of them. Right click on the folder itself after deleting the contents, if it is set as read only, please uncheck that and re-launch Final Fantasy XIV.
    - Please be sure to install the game to the C: drive as this works best with Final Fantasy XIV. Lastly, please be sure that no background processes are interfering with FFXIV (i.e. Anti-virus software, OneDrive, Discord etc.)

Thank you once again for visiting the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums!
