Right now? Useless pretty much.
In the future? Heh... I'm not even going to speculate. We might get completely blindsided.

all great stuff in this thread. i still just hope that one day jewelry is meldable, that would be a logical place to dump all these oranges.

They're useful if you're after the melding achievements. I imagine they'll see more use on 2.0 mobs and during PvP.

Given the current melding system the only way i could see these getting a bit more play would be to basically give them a free pass when being slotted into a multi melded piece of equipment.
But in truth. The amount of monsters that use serious amounts of debuffs are small. At most I get hit with gravity and poison(this is including all effects like choke) and petrification. Once in every third blue moon I will get slapped with a slow, blind, or paralyze. The frequency is simply not enough to justify the loss of a potential good stat in that slot.
Sure they might be useful come 2.0. I also might hit the lottery or be abducted by a cult of beautiful woman who only live to fill my every desire. I don't see those happening either. In the mean time curse your luck when you create one or make a pair of irrelevant sleep resistant jammies for your crown.
