    FF7R inspired MSQ: Please stop

Although I am aware that it is too late to change much about the plot and zones of 7.0, I urge the developers to consider carefully whether taking inspiration from FF7R is truly needed in any capacity.

Yoshi P has said that they want to do a huge collab with FF7R, more than a simple seasonal event. This rang many alarm bells, not least because the last one that we had, with Nier:Automata, presented us with a story that did not integrate with FF14's world and lore.

There are now rumors that the new expansion's story is FF7R-inspired. Although the chance is low, if this is the case: Please stop.

We do not need Fate Whispers in FF14 defending Erenville from being killed by Sephiroth.

We do not need random Sephiroth Echo flashbacks with absolutely no context through the MSQ.

We do not need Krile to begin as a flower girl but then magically tell us all about what the Whispers are out of nowhere with no explanation (although, lately Y'shtola is basically filling that role of the Great Explainer).

We do not need irrelevant and obnoxious villains like Roche who serve absolutely no purpose other than wanting to fight, because quite frankly we are sick and tired of budget Zenos clones.

We do not need to see Papalymo come back to life in another timeline because we managed to defeat the Whisper bosses as the Lv100 boss in the MSQ.

If the 7.0 MSQ is really FF7R-inspired as the rumors suggest, I guarantee you Square Enix, you will lose half of your playerbase.

I don't really know how it can be FF7-inspired. We'd need Shinra Inc (which is the Garlean Empire in this game) but we finished them off.

We would need a climate change crisis like in FF7 and real life that is caused by burning fossil fuels. We could argue we are burning too much Ceruleum (which is aether), but it was mostly the garleans doing that I think unless the people in the blue mage story have been using it a lot too. We could argue this aether was being burned another way, by primal summoning, but we already solved that.

It starts to look like we would need to visit another shard to find these circumstances.

In other news, there is no technical debt from 1.0.
"We don't have ... a technological issue that was carried over from 1.0, because ARR was meant to kind of discard what we had from 1.0 and rebuild it from the engine."

Sadly that may be the case.

Is it like a requirement or something to end all new posts with "if they do/don't do x then they'll lose x amount of player base".
It's starting to just read like copy pastas.
In terms of if it's ff7r inspired, I honestly don't care. The story can be good (or bad) regardless if it pulls in elements of another game or not. I'll judge it once it's actually out.

You imply that half the playerbase cares about MSQ, sorry to break your bubble, they dont. I'll gladly trash talk the game issues that are ongoing right now, but MSQ is not one, nor are they going to lose half the playerbase because of it. Good bait thread though

I kind of dislike bullshit/absurdly convoluted story coming from Nomura.

That being said, what's telling you that it will be a thing ?

As long as the dungeons trials and raids are good, as well as the music, I will have no qualms with it even if the story is mediocre.

i know this is sarcasm but man....this is going to give half the playerbase an aneurism just reading what you've put. He commented about collabing with 7 remake but much further down the line if you actually listened to what he said it wouldn't be anytime soon. Also 15 did a collab with gear, mounts and a small bit of story...whats saying it cant be done here..I mean heck they did 13 lol

Keep reading those rumours though...sounds like they are having a hell of a time making them up.

I doubt they would get that deep into it. We'd get a XIV version of some significant events or characters just like we have with IV.

They do have some room to do either some sort of alternate timeline type of arc or what is happening on other shards that is similar to the Source. So they could make the ideas work that way and could be quite interesting.

If this is just based on the thing about Cosmo Canyon, that's pretty reasonable when Meracydia looks like it has a canyon. And references are references. I doubt it will be quite as elaborate as the fiends we've been fighting in the patches.
