You may see some people say "shouldn't have jumped on the bandwagon"..mostly because what prevented you from subbing to the game in January where you for sure would have had legacy status?
Because I didn't think game was in a state where it still justified paying for it. I didn't even know that it was at a reduced cost and even so I didn't really have the funds at the time, where I live and being a student is annoying due to the lack of jobs and people needing them being stupidly high so its hard to find stable work at the minute. I only recently came back because the game has always had potential and now I have some money to see if anything else has been improved and the cheaper cost sealed the deal as would the legacy price for me. In the UK the price per month for FFXIV is more than any other MMO not by much but every little counts to me at the minute. If I could pay this lower price for 2.0? well thats a massive bonus to me and actually makes me want to play it more as its more affordable.

And as Taal said I didn't think they were taking it down for Alpha. If they do then fine I understand its too late, however if they bill me for that month and take the servers down after my billing date then I should be eligible, I didn't get my 30 days but I still paid for them like everyone else. Thats what I'm trying to get across.
