Well, in the MSQ recap series of storyboard, the player would still need to play through all of it.
The idea is this, create a story map with nodes like Mario or Naruto, where the player can skip all the fetch quests in between all the big story events.
Have a good voice narrate between all the important fights and cutscenes, clump them together so that you can digest just enough per node.
But then also give the player incentives to do it the old fashion way.
This would give players the option to fast track to the end without losing the story's significance, without players losing context or investment in the story.
It would make FFXIV more popular, easier and less daunting for new players.
I'm also working on photoshopping a story mode node map, so people can easier see how I envision it.
