I wouldn't have an issue with the lunchbox if it's design went along with the weapons but, since it doesn't, any glamour that's not steampunk based is condemned to wield a jarring box that clashes with their preferred glamour. And I would really love if the only way to keep it hidden wasn't through under-the-table methods.

And it's not a lore justification. Again, it's literally the job. That's not just lore. That's the gameplay material as well. If you don't like it, play another job. Problem solved.

If they continually water down the setting just to appease this type of stuff, it makes the game less appealing. The game itself loses its identity, just like the classes do. We really don't need to lose anymore for the sake of your damned aesthetic idolatry.
For something that is "literally the job", the aetherotransformer sure has been going unnoticed for most of the job design and story, even in Heavesward. Like... one mention and a one animation, perhaps? But, let's assume that the lunchbox is still that importants for a moment. What stops literally anyone from slapping a glamour prism on it in order to make it invisible? Or Stephavinien to create a slimmer version that can be hidden from the eye? Hell, SE could use that last excuse to go further than that and create additional unlockable lunchbox designs (unlikely, but it's still an idea).

Even in your scenario, there is really no argument lorewise that stops SE from giving the option of toggling the aetherotransformer visibility, specially since they didn't bother designing models to go along with the weapons like the BRD's quivers.

And I don't know about you but... I'm pretty people don't pick Machinist for the lunchbox, they do it for the pew-pew and the gadgets. The lunchbox is, at best, a cosmetic addition for the playerbase and, at worst, an eyesore.
