Turns out the dev team does what it wants, and it doesn't always make for cohesive gameplay elements. Sad for us, really. Shows a distinct lack of care on their part, and if they don't care, we get slop.

And you ignored half of my rationale, by the way. It's not just that it makes magic bullets. It's that you get the job from the guy who gives it to you. The lunchbox IS the job class, in other words.

I don't think it's silly at all to want the defining instrument of a job to be what is displayed on the job. I will say I do wish they made it more stylized and different with every paired gun, but I guess I could chock it up to the devs not respecting their own lore/world again. /shrug
Also to add that Samurai currently can buy a wooden training katana (for MGP) without an actual scabbard, which is essential to Iaijutsu techniques since the aether is stored there. Or a White Mage sharing Edda's Scythe weapon model, from mogstation, with a Black Mage, when in lore is clearly stated that both need to use different types of staves. A Gunbreaker who can equip the pvp spiked club, even though it doesn't have a gun barrel for the cartridges. There are probably other outliers that I'm not remembering rn.

In the end, this kind of stuff is not the norm, and probably means to have players imagine their jobs a little bit outside of the box.

Edit: Plus they can always justify an invisible lunchbox or whatever, because of 'glamour'. Scholars and Summoners can make glamour illusions to alter their companion's appearance.
