    Hypothetical Question

I was browsing through old reddit threads comparing 14 with other MMOs and I had a question pop into my head based on some of the responses speaking about the social aspect of the game being a driving force of why they stay.

Hypothetically speaking, if your friends/community in 14 suddenly decided to quit the game tomorrow would the game itself (i.e. the content) be enough to make you stay?

There is no right or wrong answer, just curious about perspectives.

    For me. Probably not.
I was a solo player for the first few years I played and was on the verge of quitting before I got involved with the hunt community. Made a ton of in game friends in there and was able to explore a ton of content I otherwise would've never done with my old playstyle.

Personally, as long as they keep putting effort into making the content at least palatable, and nothing else matches the way it hits my taste.

I could be the only person I know that plays it.

    (PAIN)
Most of my friends have the game in EU, the other friends in NA either have no interest, not playing atm, or just cannot put effort into the commitment. (Which is fair, MMOs are a bit of a commitment, even if it's solo able on the story aspect, or easy to find communities for specific content)

If left to my devices, I'd be running and tracking content for days for others.

So for me, it's really if the game is good enough in my interests. (and one of my interests, is that it does well enough for new and old players. may not be perfect. but it works for now.)

TLDR: kinda already is, I'm on an Island here in NA.

CrossRegion could be a boon, or maybe a curse depending on the friends.

Yes. Some of my friends did quit and my hubby plays sporadically. I found new friends and new communities. But it's the game itself that keeps me around. I just enjoy going out and interacting with others when I choose to.

Most everyone I knew already quit, permanently in all likelihood. Somewhere in the vicinity of 30-40 people. The few I tried to get into the game failed because they didn't want to play 10 years of content mostly solo since the MSQ is more often reading and solo quests than multiplayer and the game didn't look that good anymore compared to other games in general, not MMOs.

As is, Endwalker isn't enough to make me stay, I advocated so hard for a graphics revamp this is why I stay around like a ghost, because I won't ask for something, get it, and quit anyways. But Dawntrail's gameplay has to be funner than this. So right now, the game isn't enough. I wouldn't even recommend it. But I am holding out hope it improves.

Heck, I would even argue the game got SO STALE, that it made my community quit, despite the community and friendship lol.

    Yo! Aries how you doin!

Hey! Hey! ^^ sup? You wanna do something?

Uhh I'm capped on tomes and don't have anything to spend them on, I guess we could run a roulette for the same static dungeons we've played for 10 damn years now?

Yeah... Ugh, maybe we could PVP CC for some fun, that's always variable depending on the team we get.

We can't even queue to that together... I'm prolly gonna log out, see ya around.

    Honestly, probably not.

The Legends of the Titanmen lives on, a shining example of the power of compassion and the ability of people to make a difference in the world. A reminder that even in the darkest of times, there is always hope, as long as there are heroes like the Titanmen who dare to do good deeds in Eorzea.

Yes, I play for the content not for the people. The majority of my friends/community do not play the game and are unlikely to start, especially since I can't tell them they can play solo if they want to.

The required multiplayer thing is a big deterrent. My friends are at a stage in life where waiting for other players or staying on other players schedules, hitting dummies over and over till they can do the rotation in their sleep and studying Discords, videos, etc, is just not going to happen.

Add lost content like past seasonal events and pre-order items and co, and it's a very hard sell.

I think there's a very important thing to clarify:
    • Are you asking about whether FF14 would be worth continuing to play if it were single-player?
    • Or are you asking about whether FF14 would be worth continuing to play even if the players I'm
familiar with all left, but there are still plenty of other players playing the MMO?
Because if all my friends left, well...most of them already have. But there are still plenty of others to play with, even if they're strangers. And with strangers, there's always the possibility to make new friends.

But would I keep playing FF14 if it was a single-player game? That's a much more complicated question due to the fact that it's structured like an MMO, which loses a lot of what it has going for it if you're literally the only person playing.

Sure. It's the content that I've been playing for all along. When I first started, I had only known one other player who had tried the game out. It's been nice to see some of my friends pick it up along the way not to mention the game friends I've made over the years.

I'm always connecting with new people as I play. As some game friends choose to move on, others will appear. Real life friends will remain friends and it could be we'd start playing other games together but it won't stop me from playing this one as long as I continue to enjoy it.
