    7.0 raid call out aid

    Hello,
I recall the team talking about an official replacement for certain popular mods that call out mechanics and such during raids. I've taken a year long break from the game and missed the bulk of most liveletters. Has there been any announcements for such a system yet? Is it even expected for 7.0 or later down the line? A criticism I have on the game is how community dependant it is to learn stuff. You could argue it's because it's an MMO, but as a video game it's a bit inconvenient.

I can only speak from my own subjective experience, but I would be so sad if they implemented something like this. If the overall population of players need callouts to succeed, then I see that as a fault in the game's design, and thus making an onboard mod that does said callouts would simply be a band-aid rather than resolving the fundamental issue.

The game gives you all the information you need to solve mechanics already. If you dont want to solve it yourself, you can look at how other players solved it and copy that.
What's the point of in-game callouts?

I'm not exactly sure what your complaint is. There are zero need for any third party program to play this game, even the hardest content.
If one is limiting their own skill by cheating and using a crutch well... they should probably be banned for cheating anyway.

ACT in base form is not a callout program, it is purely an encounter parser for damage, healing and events.

What is referred to as callout aid is most likely CactBot, which isn't the only ACT plugin one can use for such purpose.

I have been in many statics where no external help other than a comfortable way to collect damage data for performance was used, because learning a fight without one isn't as big as a challenge as some may pretend and if you need calls... well, that's what we have shotcallers for (players who call as you fight).

EDIT + NOTE: I know you didn't imply anything other than ACT usage, I just happened to quote on your post to collectively answer in the thread, sorry.

Savage and Ultimate raids are challenges. The entire point is to be inconvenient because you're overcoming a challenge.

Whatever its users may try to cope and tell you, Cactbot callouts are cheating. They try to justify it by saying "oh well a raid leader could call that out," but there is no raid leader alive that can call out what all eight people should be doing instantaneously before the boss animation that tells you what the mechanic is even happens. If they ever add anything like Cactbot to the game I will quit in an instant.

Back in FFXI, I had a raid member who explained they used the parser not as a competition, but to help them fine tune their gear. They played Puppetmaster. The game's most customizeable, most stat wobbly job. Trying to figure out what one little 7 million gil cog they needed to save up for next just by looking at how fast something died and gut feeling was impossible - they wanted to be the best puppetmaster they could possibly be.

So they used a parser, running off their network traffic. Am I close to the 95% haste cap yet? What's my critical hit rate? What's my accuracy? Are my elemental damages hitting at the expected values? Etc.

Ironically this same person plays XIV to this day, and no longer uses the parser because The Balance has already told them what bits and bobbles they need to be The Best Version Of That Job.
